On November 30, I visited the "CHIHARU SHIOTA I to EYE" exhibition at the Nakanoshima Museum of Art, Osaka.
I was not very tired from the solo exhibition and thought I could go after three days and three nights of rest, but it took me a long time to get there. Come to think of it, this was the first time since I moved into my current house, so I had no idea how long it would take, and it ended up taking nearly two hours each way by Kyoto City bus, the Keihan Main Line, and the Keihan Nakanoshima Line.
When I entered the museum, there was a huge line of people, mostly young people. If I had been told to line up here, I would have sat down right there. Fortunately, disabled people like me were able to get in at a reduced rate, and there was a separate line.
The image I had of Chiharu Shiota was a vivid red world. The installation looked like a neuron with red ropes stretched around it. What greeted me in the exhibition room was also an installation with a large amount of red rope and cloth hanging from it. Personally, I found the next installation, “Circulating Memories,” with white threads, etc., to be the highlight of the exhibition. It was a large scale work that visitors could pass through like a tunnel.
The exhibition was not limited to installations, but included paintings, sculptures, videos (performance, stage design, etc.), illustrations for serialized newspaper novels, and a wide range of other works, fully demonstrating Chiharu Shiota's abilities as an artist. Her video works were especially good, and I wished I could shoot video myself.
Anyway, as someone who works in the same field of art as myself, I found the exhibition informative.
It was almost noon when I finished the exhibition, but the restaurant inside the museum was already full. I had no choice but to sit outside on a bench and eat a snack I had bought at a convenience store. It took me two hours to return home, and I was exhausted. After writing this, I think I will take a short rest.
