A couple of religions have a problem with 'Graven Images.' The problem lies in that a modern misunderstanding of that term brings them to forbid any images at all. Graven images are generally carved out of something so that the end result could be worshipped as an idol. I don't think you are worshipping your drawings of the Ninja Turtles or worshipping the Ninja Turtles... so the religious application doesn't really apply to the arts in general.
The religious application only truly relates when it is either forming an idol to be worshipped or an artistic act of worship in and of itself. I don't believe you are allowed to depict God in an artistic form even as a token of devotion in Islam though. I commend you for honoring your mother and father, especially under such conditions. Your skills are something to utilize. If you were an architect would they be against designing the infrastructure of a house, building, or bridge? What would be the difference between a house or a Ninja Turtle?
