Zapfic50 Monday - The Crash

in Freewriters5 days ago

This post is my entry to the ZapficMonday writing contest for this week - the prompt is BIKE.

It's inspired by a true story told to me back in my motorcycle courier days. There were some colourful (and hilariously twisted) characters in the business back then !

Enjoy !

He hit a patch of diesel. The bike went one way, the rider the other.

When he got up, he was covered in blood.

A passer-by fainted.

“It’s okay,” the rider said. “I’m with Bloodrunners. We stick the plasma pouches in our jackets to keep them at the right temperature.”

For any of my friends (or anyone else, for that matter !) who reads this and fancies giving it a try, it's really fun and thought provoking. The rules are really simple;

  • The Freewriters Community has a Zapfic post with a writing prompt every Monday
  • Your response must be posted within 3 days in the Freewriters Community.
  • Please post a link to your entry in the comments section of the prompt post
  • Please use #freewritehouse and #zapfic tags.
  • The important one - YOU MUST use a word/character counter (if you search for word counter on the internet or in your phone's app store you will get a big choice!) wordcounter.net and include a screenshot. Entries without a screenshot will NOT be valid.
  • Please use the prompt provided as you see fit (use your imagination)
  • Try to tell a complete story if you can!
  • The story should be EXACTLY 50 words long.

Glad he was okay.. poor passerby

Thank you ! In the "real world" version of the story, the rider was an old friend of mine who I worked with back then, and he had all the right protective gear so he was unhurt. The passerby was some poor old lady who'd never seen so much blood and thought it was all his, but all that had really happened was the plasma bag burst 😁

Oh this makes sense . It's normal for old people to experience shock on e in awhile

Lol, using jacket pockets for blood bags is genius. I bet that shocked the person who fainted. Good twist man, good twist

Cheers ! Bloodrunners is a fabulous organisation - a group made up of professional riders (a strange mix of motorcycle police and bike couriers) who volunteer when they're off duty to rush bags of plasma and other urgent medical items between hospitals when emergency supplies are needed.

that's an awesome group man

😀😀😀 poor passerby. That must have been so shocking.

I could have fainted as well, if I was the passerby that witnessed that.
