There was a turning point in my life where I knew that most of my friends did not deserve to be my friends. I was naive enough to believe that "all" of my friends wish me a happy and successful life.
I read a quote once that said something like: "pay attention to the people who don't clap when you win, they're not your friends"
I kept thinking about this quote for a while and I realized how that my friends never celebrated my wins, they never showed me appreciation or admiration for everything I've achieved, and I had achieved a lot back then!
People would want to see you do good, but never better than them. Distance keeps away envy; that's why they will envy you but not Elon Musk for instance, they know you came from the same place. Your success reminds them of what they could've achieved!
All of these words sound like they came straight from a cheap personal development book, I know. But, that's the solid truth. Imagine two friends who came from the same neighborhood, went to the same school, and had the same resources, but one makes it and the other doesn't, how would this other person feel?
That's always true, unless a person has a pure heart and loves you purely. There are only two people in life who would want you to do better than them; your father and your mother. Then comes the second level which is: people who would "not hate you" for the fact that you're doing better!
I wrote all this to warn you that very few people in this life would be capable of loving and supporting you when you're doing better than them in life. Find these people, stick to them, and if you can't find them, don't compromise.
