What do I see?

I see a little boy walking on the road on a rainy day. He is wearing a purple coloured nylon raincoat and a cone shaped straw hat on his head. He is carrying a basket filled with vegetables and a plastic bag behind also filled with fruit and veggies. A stick on his left shoulder acts as a support to help him carry the bags. There's also a motorcycle moving ahead of him.

What I feel?

I feel like he is struggling to get by. It feels to me like he got into hard labour at an early age, probably because no one is around to take care of him. I can feel his tiredness and also his resolve not to give up as he walks the lonely road.

Martin stood straight from his bent position. He had been working on Mr Yen's farm since the break of dawn. Now, he could see the golden orange streaks of the sun, a clear indication of a sunset.

He looked at the vast farmland, smiling at himself for a job well done and he had only Mr Yen to thank for that. No one else wanted a poor orphaned boy. They mocked and laughed at him whenever he passed by on the road. Only Mr Yen took him in and gave him work to do. He now had a shelter over his head, some wages and food to eat daily from the farm. Martin considered himself lucky.

While he was about to leave the farm, he noticed dark clouds overhead. "Oh no, it's going to rain" he said and went to pick up his nylon raincoat. He supported his food basket on a small wooden beam, placing it on his shoulder and off he went, walking in the rain.

He didn't mind that the road was deserted and lonely with everyone seeking shelter from the rain. Only a few brave ones like him dared to be in the rain and just that thought made him smile. Though he was tired, he knew that if he did not relent, he would make it and be at the top...soon.

Thank you for reading

This story is really touching. I can picture the little boy walking in the rain, carrying all those heavy bags. It makes me feel sad for him but also proud because he refuses to give up. The way the story explains his struggles and how Mr. Yen helped him makes it even more emotional.

I also like how the rain is more than just weather, it shows how tough his life is. The last part, where he believes he will make it, is really inspiring.

Thanks for your insightful comment. I appreciate your time here🤗
