If there was a word that ranks up in the richter scale of evil,It would be RAPE
Rape by definition is an act of plunder,violent seizure or abuse of a person,place or thing.
What I find most distasteful is the subjecting of a fellow human being to the violent act of sexual penetrative abuse. You see it is not just the body that is abused,it extends also unto the psyche of the victim and has far reaching consequences on the society at large.
In the moments leading to and unto the act itself,The rapist doesn't see his prey as a human But rather as an object for his depraved sexual satisfaction; Five minutes of sexual bliss for him,a lifetime of trauma for his victim.
My post is predicated on the recent cases of rape in Nigeria that was brought to light by social media even though it has been a constant not just in Nigeria but in every corner of the world
Social media has suddenly become a magnifying glass to focus on the evils of society,its perpetrators and government negligence in containing these evils. Score one for social media.
Now that we have a powerful tool to reveal these disease causing pathogens with rapist tendencies what modalities of punishment can the government put in place to discourage such acts from being perpetrated. Apart from punishment, what educational measures can it promote to sensitise the masses on the ills such acts can cause to the society. Families also has a role to play in the mental buildup of their male wards in regards to how they treat the opposite sex. Charity like they say starts from home.
