I confess that it wasn't until the late 70‘s that the term “plastic people” came to my attention, thanks to the success of the song “Plástico” from Rubén Blades’ album.
I don't know if it was popular before, but the characteristics of this type of person were undoubtedly very common and over the years it has grown, thanks to the fact that society pushes the collective to maintain certain standards in order to be considered a correct inhabitant.
Appearing to be something you are not, investing money you don't have in the latest fashions, acting superficially and pretending to have a fictitious status are all part of the paraphernalia of belonging to the plastic conglomerate that has grown over the years.
It is almost impossible not to meet plastic people in the city, I could assure that even those who are not plastic represent an endangered species in the metropolis, as they do not fit the patterns imposed by the consumer market.
Appearances can be deceiving, says a well-known popular saying, which is becoming more and more valid every day because even in the body we are no longer sure that everything is natural and if we go to the cyber world, filters and other tools have made make-up obsolete, referring to women, although we can no longer even speak linearly of gender.
Plastic people are the fundamental basis of the metropolitan society and the ones who maintain, sustain in credits the commercial line in the places where they live.
