- I thought this was an abandoned grocery, but I wasn't wearing my glasses so…🤷♀️
- It felt kind of foreboding so I took my story in that direction.
Here's what I wrote:
“We used to shop there,” Diane sighed wistfully as she gestured further down the road.
Her youngest scanned the abandoned building, unimpressed. Even at four she could tell that everything of value had been removed years before.
“Mommy, what does ‘shop’ mean?” she asked.
Diane flinched a little. Little Arlene knew 'find', 'take', 'borrow', 'share' and 'steal' but hardly anyone ever used words like 'shop' or 'buy' anymore.
“That's when you want something and you go to the place that has it and you give the people there money in exchange for what you want. It... doesn't work that way anymore, though.”
“Mommy, what's money?”
“Um, we used to carry around pieces of paper, and everybody agreed on how much it was worth. That way, if you wanted stuff from someone who didn't want any of the stuff you had, you could still switch with them if you had money because everyone wanted money.”
“Really??”
“Yeah! But, um… stuff happened. We can talk about it later when you get home from work. I know it's your first day, but you need to remember everything your brothers taught you so your supervisor won't have any reason to withhold your rations, okay?”
“Don't worry so much, mom. I know everything there is to know about mining! Mom…why are you crying?”
Anyways, if you'd like to write something based on this picture prompt head to this post.

For a 4-year-old, Arlene is an awakened child. She's like a sponge at that age, they want to know everything.
Yup, she has to grow up faster and take on adult responsibilities, but even her 'job' is a game in her mind because she is still a child.
✨️🌟Thanks!🌟✨️
I hope your story doesn't come true!
