The implication, of course, was that he had been up to no good. This angered him. Not because it wasn't true - he had been screwing the company for years - but because what he had been accused of he definitely had not done. Someone was stitching him up.
"I am offended," he told the meeting. "I have been accused of a wrongdoing and I won't take it lying down!" He slammed his fist onto the table to emphasise his words, making the teacup in front of his jump and tea splash onto the paperwork.
"I am sure Helen didn't mean to suggest-" Herbert began in his usual simpering way.
"I certainly did!" Helen said, her angry eyes flashing between Josh and Herbert. "You have been taking advantage of your position for years, Josh. Everyone knows it, but everyone else is too scared to say so." Josh stood up.
"I won't listen to this... this slander!" he said pushing his chair back. It fell to the floor with a crash.
