"Save Me!" a five minute freewrite

"Save me!" she shrieked. I watched as her little body twisted and turned. "Please!"

I hesitated and then dipped my hand into the water, taking her soft body in my hand and scooping her out of the sink. She lay in my palm, panting. The fur covering her was wet, of course, but not unpleasant. I could feel the warmth of her body and the shuddering as she took each deep breath.

"Thank you," she said eventually, turning her tiny head up to mine and looking me in the eye.

"What are you?" I asked. "And how do you speak my language."

She coughed and some water came out of her mouth. I could see sharp teeth and a soft dark tongue.

"I am a sprite," she said. "A water imp."

"Aren't those different things?" I asked. She shrugged.

"To some, maybe." She began to shiver and I realised she was cold.

"Let me warm you," I said and took her over to the fire.

I wanna live in your head for a day. What an imagination! Great freewrite!

Feltz, if you've never read George MacDonald, you might enjoy "The Golden Key".
Tolkien and Lewis were certainly inspired by him. When I read your passage my thoughts when to Tolkien's "Goldberry".
