Big SOB is Watching You | A 5-Minute FreeWrite

The eyes of chavez are a powerful symbol of how far a deranged political ideology is willing to go to remain in power. It represents the degradation of every single human value. It represent everything that threatens our most fundamental rights and freedoms.

Big SOB is Watching You

The design is attributed to José Miguel España who during the 2012 campaign adapted the idea. Chavez was already dying of cancer (or whatever it was that killed him) and they knew that he was going to win that election but would not rule. They needed something to impact their followers and affect them emotionally.

A twisted idea like that would have failed anywhere else, but not here. We are el país de lo posible (the country where everything is possible, even an Orwellian nightmare like this).

The flags read "chavez lives; the fight continues". The changed it from "the motherland goes on." That was at least very honest of them. They could not care less about the country. All they care is their struggle to remain in power. Power is both the means and the end.

The idea of a big benevolent "father" watching over you is not new. It comes in every mythology that has created omniscient gods to "take care" of their sheep.

The eyes of chavez have become one of the most ubiquitous symbols of what the Bolivarian revolution means. After the death of their “supreme leader,” the chavistas made sure that people would forcefully remember a man no sane person would want to ever hear or see again. His life will forever be associated with the destruction of a country in times of peace, an achievement few dictators can boast about.

Since those in charge of perpetuating his “legacy” know Chavez is far from loved (except for a select group who know how profitable his memory can be), they have made sure to smear every corner of every town in Venezuela with his eyes. They are supposed to mean transparency and protection, but anyone with a brain can tell that the very opposite is true.

Every government office or institution “welcomes” people with the cursed image of chavez just as a reminder of how much power they have and how controlling they can be. Intimidation is their only goal and they have been able to terrorize public employees and anyone who at some point needs to go through a government office for some paperwork (that is, everybody).

The eyes of chavez are a powerful symbol of how easy it is to submit a whole country. Most people may act as if it is not important and does not affect them personally. They opt for ignoring the image, even though every aspect of their lives is controled by the mechanisms that are represented in those eyes.

Will we ever get over this hatred that comes out of our guts every time we see or hear about Chavez or anything related to him? I think We won't.

Not for as long as his heirs continue looting and killing with impunity.
I'm sure that if justice were done, his memory and the feelings it awakens would fade in a few months.

Reminds me of a novel I read in high school, George Orwells’s 1984 “big brother is watching you”

Orwell nailed it with 1984. One can't help going back to it every time a totalitarian government (right or left) follows the recipe outlined in that novel.
Reading should be a voluntary thing, but Orwell's novel should be obligatory reading in schools everywhere. I'm sure politicians would have a harder time
