While growing up, Miriam’s mother showed her unconditional love. Her home was a peaceful one, and her father barely got into a fight with her mom; even though a few times arguments between them could get tensed up, he always found a way to calm it down.
Miriam never stayed outside her home until college; she lived in the hostel her first year, but it was unbearable, and she decided to get an apartment the following year, which she did.
On her for lecture, a guy brushed my shoulder lightly mistakenly though; she hates being touched and turns with an emphatic pace; the boy in sight was way in her league, tall, light skin; his eyes were so attractively watery that she saw herself in them even at a distance; he apologizes quickly; his husky voice, which was soothing in her ears, calms her down without a delay; she responds in a gesture that proves his forgiveness.
The venue for the lecture was confirmed, and they headed towards the block for their lectures. Her friend forgot to save a space beside her as usual, leaving her to look out for space herself; the only one she found was right next to the guy from a few minutes ago. She took a seat beside him without consideration.
We meet again. He said with a little smile escaping his lips, Yes, Miriam replied shyly, What’s your name, he inquired, Miriam; she replied, Miriam, as in the one in the Bible? She got that a lot, and she despised it more coming from him. Your new here, she asked, ignoring his question; yes, he replied. My parents had some issues, and they had to go their separate ways. I moved in with my mom, he added. That’s too much information for someone you just met, she thought to herself; maybe he's lonely.
They exchanged phone contact and hoped to see each other again. She always had a busy schedule, and every attempt to meet was futile. Something always came up, and she canceled their plans at the last minute. Due to these reasons, they never met physically but kept texting.
As the session break commenced, she decided to stay back for a week or two before going back home. On one breathy evening after preparing a meal, she recalls it being his favorite and calls him over. After giving him directions, he arrives faster than she thought. They discussed nothing in particular throughout his stay; the night has fallen; I should be on my way, he said; she could feel the absence of his presence before his departure; we should do this often, he said before heading out.
They grew fond of each other as the day went by. They did everything people in love could describe as fun; he loved eating, and due to their different ethnic backgrounds, they ate different foods, so most times she watched him cook what he loved, watch the recorded dance videos together, and read romantic novels until one person fell asleep, she gave him all the love incorporated in her by her family. Above all, they made out a lot.
Things fell apart when she got pregnant; she was four months gone without her knowledge; she still saw her period each month, but a few other things felt off, which prompted her to go for the checkup. She called her guy on the phone, but he hung up abruptly. She calls back several times but gets no responses. She goes to his house, and upon her arrival, she can feel the greeting of unwelcome in his tone.
