Being an ambivert I am more of an introvert than an extrovert. I detested joining clubs because I felt there would be a need to express myself; maybe I was somewhat shy. We had the football club, basketball club, table tennis, reader’s club, etc. The reader’s club presented the news every Monday and Friday; I doubt I even had the gut to hold the mic not to talk of voicing out.
In the midst of all these disadvantages, I decided to join the football club because it required just probably running a few lapses, passing the ball, and a few other exercises or training that could help me get fully energetic for the game, and the most exciting part was that they were given lots of snacks, which really intrigued me, though I had to introduce myself on joining.
Before I decided to create a fun part for my life, I felt football was a really boring game. I felt revulsion towards the screams from my brothers when watching their game due to one reason or another; some other time they go to bed upset because their team did lose or transferred aggression to whoever crosses them that day, so keeping your distance was preferable.
We engaged in interhouse sports, and during this period the different games were played and houses competed against each other in order to give our best. Our coach ensured we rehearsed more often to keep up with our success as the winning team through the previous years. Though the team comprised of our seniors last session and had passed out the previous year, the remaining were average but thrived for the best.
The competition started, but as the newest member, I was not allowed to participate just there as a substitute for emergencies. I sat back, watching them as this was the knockout phase. Our team won the match that day, though three other teams were eliminated.
During the semifinals, one of our players got badly injured, and I was asked to replace her. Going into the game I tried, I really did my best, but it turned out I wasn’t good enough; my skills were not up to standard. I did pass the ball to our opponent a few times by mistake, and we ended the game with a draw.
My coach scolded me badly, expressing his disappointment. I felt worse, as I should not have bothered making a difference with my life. The next day was our finals; my teammate did not fully recover, and I was still the only person available. I did not want yesterday’s incident to repeat itself; I snuck into our game master’s office during his absence and punctured every ball I came across. He discovered this malicious act and, out of annoyance, cancelled the game for the section after several threats to find the doer. I was not proud of myself, but I saved my ass from more trouble, knowing fully well I would never be caught.
