A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words- Hope She's Okay

It happened on the spot ten years ago.
I was six, but the memories still linger like their new.
She was constantly abused by her husband; my father; her tears created cracks in my soul.
But I was more helpless than she was.
I wanted to fight for her; I wanted her to know she wasn’t alone.
But I was petrified in fear of what would be my fate from my heartless father.
My arms were not as gigantic as his, nor was I tall enough.
So I kept my distance, secretly praying for the day revenge would come, but it never did.
She was beaten at any slight inconvenience; she lost three kids to miscarriage from his brutal ways.
And got beaten so severely that it was due to her incapability to birth a child.
The monster in him just kept consuming him daily. I feared her death would come sooner, so did she.
She had to leave when he was gone; she wanted to go with me; she really did, but we knew my father.
would hunt us down.
Our goodbyes were sad; she cried for hours, not wanting to let go.
But I told her she needed life; that’s the only way they could be hopeful.
She promised to come back for me.
She promised she would forever dwell within the walls of her heart.
We kissed go bye, and she kept turning back till she completely vanished.
It was on a rainy day.
Coming out here ten years later, same year, same spot, the rain still claps violently on the top of my umbrella.
Maybe nature respects love.
Being here gives me hope; she will come back to me to see the person I have become.
To see I never became a tyrant like my father.
I miss her dearly, and so does the rain; it bleeds for me.

Such a heart breaking story, such a sacrifice. I wonder if she's still alive.

Me too 😓
I hope she comes back it she's out there

My heart was heavy and my eyes teary reading this @iammmema. From a child's perspective, he deemed himself weak, but he was strong. He was strong enough to let her go. Urging her to leave to save her life. They both knew that if she stayed because of him, her life would end. For that, he truly would be sad as an adult. He can be comforted knowing he probably saved her life by releasing her.

Domestic violence is heartbreaking for many families unable to break the bonds and end up a statistic on the evening news. The family unit broken. I've known family and friends in the grips of this disease by the perpetrators whose only motive is complete control and domination.

I wish society was different in how abusers are treated. It's a shame that one has perish in order for the issue to be taken serious. Perhaps some day. Perhaps.

Thanks so much for this heartfelt and thoughtful read.
