The Color Orange. Wednesday Freewrite

Okay, so I love oranges, what’s wrong with that? I’m not particular how I get my “fix”, as long as I do; orange juice, orange liqueur, orange cake, candied orange peel, you name it, I’ll devour it as long as it’s orange.

But then, my brother also loves oranges, not on the same scale or with the same unutterable devotion, but he’s partial; must be a family thing.

My brother is also very fond of practical jokes. (yes, of course you know where this is headed).

Anyway, on one bright sunny morning I went to find my juice in the fridge and the fridge was bare. (Naturally, there was everything other than juice in the fridge, but still…)

“Who stole my juice?” I yelled at the top of my voice, “who?”

But I knew already…

I searched the house for my brother and my juice. (Mostly for my juice, I can never go too long without a vitamin C kick) - he was nowhere to be found. Gone!

I didn’t think to look outside in the garden, because he was such a geek, that his little mug had hardly ever seen the light of day. (Only the backlight of a computer)

But, my mom called me over and pointed into the garden.
Low and behold, there he was, with an evil, childish grin on his face, holding a shovel and standing next to a fit looking tiny sapling.

He waved and shook the orange juice pitcher at me.
“Happy Birthday” 🎁🎉🎊
“Come out celebrate with me and christen your orange 🍊 🌳 tree. Isn’t it going to be fun?”
I’d completely forgotten that it was my birthday!
