It was a hot morning in the dry plains of the Northeast of Brazil, the slaves of the plantation of the landowner Thiago de Oliveira were already up very early, his negros were trained to work hard for hours without complaining at all, not for anything the cruel foreman of the plantation supervised them so that everything would go as it should, otherwise they would suffer the worst unimaginable tortures. The "slave" Flora was the only one who never suffered punishment because she was the favorite one of the famous landlord, the other slaves only had two options: to work as mules or to run away to some hills where they could find some shelter and finally be free of their chains, which was the dream of every black man at the highest peak of the dark times of slavery.
The slaves felt so much envy and resentment towards Flora because of her status, the resentment grew even more when they realized how she never looked after the welfare of the slaves despite having the privileges of the boss, rumour has it that Flora's relationship with Mr. Thiago was much more than just a simple affair, slaves were saying in the barracks that since the landowner was widowed, Flora saw the opportunity to become his sex slave and thus climb up the ladder to become his wife. Flora was an extremely attractive woman with a voluptuous figure that made her stand out from all the other female slaves. It was obvious to everyone else that she would make it, however, many feared that things would only get worse once Flora was "the patroness".
So many revolts and conspiracies were set up to sabotage Flora's aspirations, but thanks to her cunning and malice, she managed to get away with all the other slaves' attempts to spoil her plans.
The great day finally arrived and Flora was married by Thiago de Oliveira in the middle of an improvised wedding in the little Church of the village; she made sure that every slave was there to witness her entrance to the altar; she sort of wanted to brag about her great triumph in front of them all.
It didn't take more than one day for the now “Flora de Oliveira” to execute her machiavellian revenge against all the slaves who wanted to destroy her, with the help of the foreman, she created some hot coal trenches, she made sure all these trenches were covered in as many hot coals as it was possible. She forced the slaves to get all in a row, each of the slaves who rose up against her suffered the dreadful consequences. Flora observed with great joy how each of her enemies was charred in those infernal pools that she devised with great detail as a method of punishment. It didn’t occur to any of the slaves that the once-sweet girl would now become one of the worst monsters living on that ranch.
“Hell is empty and all the devils are here,” A little girl whispered so sofly while witnessing such vile acts, it was the studious teenager Isabel de Oliveira, one of the daughters of the famous landowner who would later turn against him, by freeing all the slaves of his father’s farm and, with great efforts, she becomes one of the most important abolitionists of Brazil.
Lovely story, it reminds of a book i read titled Young Master Damien's Pet.
