MicroFiction: A 250 word story written using the word prompt "in the grip of madness".
...What does it mean to be "in the grip of madness"? Since I'm not a professional dealing with the psychological aspects of humans, I can only surmise that the term defines an individual who has lost touch with reality as we understand it. Society judges individuals by the standard of a "reasonable man". That means that actions and words should resemble what the majority of us feel is acceptable for the common good.
Where then does that leave a considerable amount of people who think and act differently from the normal course of action? I feel these individuals are automatically cast as a victim of "madness", the state of losing one's mental capacity in the opinion of a professional person knowledgeable about such issues.
For my theme, I was inspired by and utilized the @daily.prompt's publishing of 11 November 2024, @mariannewest's Freewrite Writing Prompt Day 2553: in the grip of madness.
Below is my story:
The cold, uninviting couch did nothing to slow my pulse. A long-sleeved shirt did nothing to reduce the gigantic goose bumps. I scoured the space leading upward toward the ceiling. Not the usual black color you'd expect from that type of office. But it did match the walls for consistency. Perhaps if I removed my shades, the world inside that place would comprehend my angst.
I doubted seriously my family would welcome me back if I didn't make concerted efforts to assist in understanding my demons.
So, I slowly lifted off the darkness.
Behind the shades, I could feel my left eye throbbing underneath unbearable pain. I reached toward the side table and lifted a glass of water to my parched, swollen lips. An invisible hand rushed over. It lifted my head, then guided the glass to my mouth, thrusting two orange pills in my face.
First thought was to reject the cocktail. Relaxing was counterproductive. I desperately needed to remember. To vomit out the scene circling my consciousness. To grasp the reason for my delusion.
The dark alley opened its doors, inviting me. I woke to raindrops fell on my cheeks. I crawled until I could stand, then ran from that place naked. Feet attached to shoulders. Head nestled in midsection with mouth shouting obscenities. "Stop!"
"Am I in the grip of madness, doctor?" yelling at the wall that cut my words and returned them in a jigsaw.
"No, Simon." Dr. Santiago assured. "You were assaulted, robbed, and abandoned."

A Reasonable Man
Para mi tema, me inspiré y utilicé la publicación de @daily.prompt de 11 November 2024, @mariannewest's Freewrite Writing Prompt Day 2553: in the grip of madness.
A continuación mi historia.

"Fuiste asaltado, robado y abandonado».

I believe that that robbery, that assault and that abandonment, was also accompanied by many blows, to the point of driving him to the point of delirium.

It certainly did @lanzjoseg. He now suffers with eye impairment and other ailments it seems, such as loss of memory. It's a shame what people do to each other without a worry about the consequences of that person's life if that person survives.
