I had to contemplate for a bit for today's prompt don't amputate. The word usually means a person or animal has been hurt to the point they require surgery to cut off the injured part of the body. I'm a bit squeamish when it comes to medical procedures. That's probably why I didn't choose the medical field as a profession.
However, the word can be used to describe an action people takes to distance themselves from an unbearable situation. They want to cut off or separate themselves. I share a micro-fiction for the prompt that analyzes the first definition I used in the form of a ZAPFIC50 story that's told in exactly 50 words. The challenge was created by @felt.buzz.
I based my 50-word story on @mariannewest's Freewrite prompt: 23 December 2024, @mariannewest's Freewrite Writing Prompt Day 2595: don’t amputate. If you'd like to join in from the daily prompts, visit @daily.prompt's Profile and view each day's freewrite prompt.
Below is my story.
Allen spat in the terrorist's direction. "It would serve him right, but don't amputate. Otherwise, we'll have to carry him. He should've died alongside his hijacker friends who sabotaged the plane."
With mixed emotions, Corey amputated, citing his oath and Christian upbringing.
Trekking, the weight of his Christianity bore heavily.
No Pity For the Perpetrator
A continuación mi historia.

The screenshot at WORDCOUNTER.net evidences my use of exactly 50 words to create my ZapFic50.

Corey literally picked up his cross ... and carried it ... offering life-saving grace and paying for doing that ... that story does hit hard ...
Were it not for Corey's convictions, the man who meant him harm, wouldn't have survived. It does give one a moment to pause, when you have been harmed by others. I think of the wristband I have: WWJD.
Thanks so much for your visit and thoughtful insight. I appreciate it, your engagement, and support. Take care.
