MicroFiction: A 250 word story I've written using the word prompt "the next quest".
...When I consider the prompt, my thoughts veer toward individuals who are forever chasing the next big thing in their lives. This is not always the case, though, as other individuals simply love achieving one goal, then moving on to the next. My story involves a confused individual who wants to achieve, but goes about it the wrong way. I hope you enjoy.
For my theme, I was inspired by and utilized the @daily.prompt's publishing of 20 September 2024, @mariannewest's Freewrite Writing Prompt Day 2501: the next quest.
Below is my story:
"Hold on Eric!," I whispered, grabbing his arm, so as not to embarrass us both. It was a good thing the dance floor lights flickered with the music's thunderous beat.
"I got this, Vernon. Watch me," Eric shot back with blood in his eyes. Actually, it was 5 vodka shots that glared back at me.
"You'll land us both in trouble; probably kicked out; and jeopardize our club passes. I've heard of other patrons' access being revoked."
"You're weak-kneed. No wonder you haven't scored this past year. Tonight my luck is gonna change. I've just spotted the woman I'm going to spend not one, but two nights with, then the rest of our lives." Eric flashed a wicked smile and lewd gesture in the direction of the next quest sending special vibes her way.
My eyes locked onto the target. What didn't Eric see that I did? watching the woman turn and extend her hand to her escort. But that didn't prevent her from acknowledging Eric's advances.
Oh my God, I thought, sensing trouble brewing. So I rushed over to the couple and apologized, explaining Eric's inebriation.
This bold move Eric contemplated was the most recent in the past two years that he undertook to move past his failed marriage. Declaring no fault, he resolved to prove himself perfect husband material.
I couldn't leave Eric. He required a designated driver. But I could leave his life if he didn't change his tactics.
The woman. I felt bad for her escort.

Stand de dos noches
«¡Aguanta Eric!», susurré agarrándolo del brazo para no avergonzarnos a los dos. Menos mal que las luces de la pista de baile parpadeaban con el estruendoso ritmo de la música.
«Yo me encargo, Vernon. Mírame», respondió Eric con sangre en los ojos. En realidad, fueron 5 tragos de vodka los que me devolvieron la mirada.
«Nos meterás a los dos en problemas; probablemente nos echen; y pondrás en peligro nuestros pases del club. He oído que han revocado el acceso a otros clientes».
«Eres débil de rodillas. No me extraña que no hayas marcado este último año. Esta noche mi suerte va a cambiar. Acabo de encontrar a la mujer con la que voy a pasar no una, sino dos noches, y luego el resto de nuestras vidas». Eric mostró una sonrisa malvada y un gesto lascivo en dirección a la siguiente búsqueda, enviándole vibraciones especiales.
Mis ojos se clavaron en el objetivo. ¿Qué es lo que Eric no vio que yo sí? Ver cómo la mujer se giraba y tendía la mano a su acompañante. Pero eso no le impidió reconocer los avances de Eric.
Dios mío, pensé, presintiendo que se avecinaban problemas. Así que corrí hacia la pareja y me disculpé, explicando la embriaguez de Eric.
Este audaz paso que Eric contemplaba era el más reciente de los dos últimos años que había emprendido para dejar atrás su fracasado matrimonio. Declarándose inocente, resolvió demostrar que era el marido perfecto.
No podía dejar a Eric. Necesitaba un conductor designado. Pero podía dejar su vida si no cambiaba sus tácticas.

Hahaha, this got me laughing. Eric's move to get over his failed marriage is typically a silly one but I don't blame him entirely, we all do silly things to prove a point.
For a grown man and his antics, he went out of his way to prove he still "had it". However, people tend to do crazy stuff when under the influence that may have a negative effect on intentions.
