Footsteps on the sand

Source

Upon the empty sands limp footprints trace
Where snails alone now walk this lonely place
The palms have fled, seeking brighter skies
As ebbing tides caress the shore
Within the tangled branches eyes appear
Watching the waves, the driftwood, lingering near
Dark clouds like veils obscure the far blue line
No joy lights their pregnant forms now orphaned
A restless moment holds the trembling soul
Peering in mirrors, hoping cares to castrate whole
Mouths consume sorrows, wafting scents declare
Anise and cinnamon rule the breezes sweeping there
Desolated by your going, this shore pines still
Seeking in nature's simple signs your form to fill
Though tides may change and clouds give way to sun
Your imprint on this heart remains, dear one
