Greetings Readers!
Her is the second part of poor Dragon Kay's life. It really doesn't get much better for her, so a warning for all new readers!
She hadn’t been in school for very long, but she recognised the species looking back at her. They were Kai, a slaver race. They were currently at war with the Saith, and they were desperate for soldiers and resources. She looked at it in curiosity but didn’t feel the need to flee. She could see the weapons at their sides, it wouldn’t take much for them to chase her down if she did run.
One separated from the pack while the other three continued to rain blows on her father. It was fast, too fast to dodge out of the way. It scooped her up under one arm, and in a smooth movement, drew a wicked knife and buried it in her abdomen.
Pain was something she was used to, but this was something else. It burned, it tore, and the blood that was spilling everywhere would make more of a mess for her to clean. She wasn’t scared, but now she was angry. Her father’s guests had never attacked her before. Were these even her father’s guests?
As soon as the weapon plunged into her, she grabbed the hand it was attached to and activated her ability. It was the ability that she had been branded a monster for. Her father had blamed her for the death of her mother and brother because of this. He had blamed her for the loss of rains even. Her only crime was that she could steal and use the energy of those around her. A power that was deadly if not leashed.
The Kai had no idea what hit it as she drained it within a few seconds. Agony laced her system as they fell, and the knife was torn from her body. No one had the right to hurt her. Her father had often said that only he was allowed to hurt her, and now that someone else had hurt her, a fury was lit in her.
She kicked the body from her and used its energy to construct knife-like talons coming from her finger. For a moment, she paused. Her father had banned her from using this ability, calling it a demon gift. But now that this new energy was flowing in her body, the pain it caused was forgotten.
Working on instinct, she marched into the living room. The three creatures had finished what they had been doing to her father, and now they faced her. Years of hiding, dodging, and building a pain tolerance all accumulated into a little ball of hate and fury. She tore into them, savouring the blood and screams of pain.
Some tried to flee, but she ran after them like a cat and tore them down. There were more scattered throughout the house, and she hunted each one down until the energy she had taken ran out. One second, she had disembowelled one and the next, she was waking up under the living room table, not remembering how she had gotten there.
Confused, she dragged herself out from under the table. She viewed the blood splatter all around her with disinterest until she saw her father lying not too far away. He was curled up and not moving. There was no more energy around him, and the puddle of red around him told of how he had died.
Yet, she still approached him cautiously. She came to stand in front of him, noting his glassy, unseeing eyes. In his hands was a photo. A photo of his dead wife and son.
“You protected that, but not me.” She hissed as she kicked his head.
It flopped around with no resistance.
“The dead were worth more to you than me!” she shrieked.
She continued to kick him until she became aware of the blood that was running down her leg. Her father was dead, and nothing she did would ever bring him back. Why would he even come back? He was happy with his wife and son now. He didn’t need to bother with his daughter anymore.
Hot, angry tears came to her eyes. Her father was dead, and she was alone. Her conditioning was screaming at her to clean the mess that had been left, but she had nothing more in her. She sat down next to her father and allowed her tears to fall. She hated him and hated the hand she had been dealt.
Now, the next partof her growth starts, but that doesn't appear until later in the book. Until then, happy reading!
