I was born with the legible co-ordinates
of the black tropic in my veins,
my oesophagus was a jungle of mouths
where the aboriginal colour
together with the percussion of the trees
made the clouds
to rain down in torrents the voluptuousness
of colour and its indigenous music
on the surface of the most inhospitable
and far away:
bromeliads clinging to the branches of honeysuckles
of honeysuckles, grandmothers who define
the African subsoil of my nose
next to the concerns sown
on the chiaroscuro of my ears.
