The #Pic1000 "A Picture is Worth A Thousand Words" is a literary initiative from the Freewriters Community in which writers have to create a story using, as a promt, the provided photo.

The Last Goodbye

It was a cold winter day in the snowy, taciturn tundra. The sky was a light blue painted with frail orange rays, and the snow blanketed everything in sight. The orphan teenager stood in the middle of the tundra, a small urn clutched tightly in his shaky hands.

Inside the urn were the ashes of his beloved mother, who had passed away just a few days before. He had come here to this place, a place she had often spoken of, to spread her ashes.

He took a deep breath and uncorked the urn. He stood there for a few minutes before throwing the ashes into the air, and watched them fell onto the snow as they were carried away by the gentle breeze. He smiled as he watched her ashes drift away, knowing that she was now free from all the pain she felt during the chemotherapy.

He then took the urn and violently threw it up into the air, watching as it spun around before finally hitting the ground and breaking into thousand of small ceramic pieces. Tears streamed down his face as he said his final goodbye to his mother.

He then turned and walked away, leaving behind a beautiful and peaceful scene. The wind blew softly, carrying away both his mother's ashes and his own pain into the vast white tundra.
