He has been so sad, completely shattered with the situation she is facing. He has no one to share her feelings with. All he could do was cry, weep and continue crying. He cried like a little girl yearning for candy.
Every thought coming to her mind is toxic and could make him end his life. The loss of his pride could not make him face the crowd and he had to stay indoors for a long time. He is not encouraged nor advised as this has been the norm of his family when they lose their pride among the top ranking families in their province.
He could have taken heart and moved on with life, but he felt the result was against him because his family is weak and not as strong as the other family.
He is the brightest and youngest man in his family and the only male qualified for the competition. The competition gives a lot of pride to the families that win and come first in the honorable competition in their province.
He prepared well, both athletic and academic aspects. He had several sleepless nights while preparing. Majority of his friends want her to fail simply because they are not as bright as him and could not represent their family. He vowed to disappoint them and be crowned the best in the competition. He studied on his own and sought help from his superior as his family could not afford to hire a tutor for him like the other family did.
All those reasons were responsible for his breakdown and his negative mood. All that people can observe from him is his face looking like he's sucking a lemon.
