"The heartbreak of psoriasis."
"Shut up Carl" I'd had enough of his soundbite responses to my agony. They always made me feel like he was making fun of me. I scratched the dry patch on the tender underside of my wrist until it bled.
"Red in tooth and claw" he said.
This was something new, not his usual TV commercial variety remark.
As I stood to put a pot of oatmeal on, tiny flakes of bloodied skin fell onto my lap. I felt disgusted by my own body, and worried I would finally disgust him enough to leave me.
Carl said nothing. I'd been with this man for forty years, and knew he was at his most unpredictable when he was silent. Then he stood, walked over to me, and closed me in his arms.
"It's better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all."
Tennyson.
My knees turned to jelly.

How did I miss this, 25 days ago...?
I remember this commercial so well! "The heartbreak of psoriasis."
And my peeling eczema leaves me feeling just like your narrator, flaking, repulsive.... just one spot, on my right palm, so I was relieved when the dreaded handshake (surely they'll feel the rough skin) fell by the wayside during Covid.
TENNYSON,
two lines of the much-quoted "In Memoriam," one of my favorite poems of all time.
I love Carl!!!!
I wrote this for you in a way. It was the day after our conversation about Tennyson. I even looked for a video to include, because that's what you do! And here you've outdone me on my own post!
And this was a real human.
İ am studying now about psoriasis, that's a weird accedent.
Oh, this says a lot in a few words. You really conveyed the dynamic of a (perhaps) abusive relationship, both the mean streak in him and her need/desire to be loved by him anyway. At least that's what I see. ... And you used #creativecoin! Amazing. :)
Those who love us seem to do so despite our weirdness, our shames, the things that others would find intolerable. And don't we love them all the more for it?
Now I can't find the commercial with The heartbreak of eczemea, sebhorrea, psoriasis - but I do remember now how to spell that awful word sebhorrea.
Wrong commercia:
Sonny and Cher: definitely not as funny as I thought they were back in the day.
Heartbreak of Psoriasis w/ Sonny and Cher, Ruth Buzzi, William Conrad comedy sketch
I think this is hilarious!
You actually watched it!! LOL - a lot of commercials and word play in this sketch, and a lot of elaborate costuming and celebrities joining the fun.
It's great! I popped it up on FB. Not that anyone sees a single thing I put on FB.
