It was my first day at work and I was all ready to start the day with a positive impression. I have been submitting my CV to every school because I do want a teaching job for the reason to impact my knowledge to the young ones. It was my happiest night ever when after months of hoping I'd be called from any of the private schools, I was sent an email and opening it, I screamed in excitement which caught the attention of my friends who were busy entertaining themselves with Big Brother Naija, a reality TV show that has been ongoing for a while and also an interest to most Nigerians.
"Miss Busayo, you have been scheduled for a meeting at our organisation on the......" I left the snacks I was munching in my mouth and started rejoicing and shouting all over the house. I told them about the good news and immediately, left the show and started carrying me up and down.
"This calls for celebration", Bimpe said... "Yes, it calls for it", I retorted back feeling so energetic that night. Before then, I was so moody and praying in my mind to get called as the TV show wasn't of any interest to me. I sat with them so they don't think like I am in my room crying and thinking again.
The next day, I got dressed up as early as possible. I needed to be at work on time for the meeting. As I entered the big compound, I was directed by the security man into a huge and spacious office. He told me to sit down while his boss comes in. After a few minutes, a woman walked majestically into the office with a smile all over her face. I couldn't avoid that as I smiled back at her while standing to greet her.
With her hand directing me to sit, I did and after a few minutes of talks, she asked if I would start work immediately. I sighed for a second and replied, "Yes ma, I am ready".
She walked me out of the door and led me to another office very close to her and said, pointing to a huge man with a beard around his cheeks, "That is our superintendent, he sees to the affairs of the whole school and other private schools in town". I walked towards the man and bowed my head slowly with my greetings to him. He welcomed me so warmly and it was as if they have been expecting me. My first day at work was heavenly and hoped other days are like that.
