Old age has been one's life time that I fear so much, you tend to depend on the help of others for daily upkeep. Although this varies among people, studies show that many are less active from age 85 upwards.
I will like to share my perspective on the weekly prompt of a "picture is worth a thousand words"
What do I see?
I see an old and a younger woman, the younger woman is carrying a plastic baff full of clothes.
What do I feel?
I feel the younger woman wants to assist the old woman to wash her clothes.
This picture reminds me of my late grandma. I was the only one living with my grandma after grandpa died and then I was still in secondary school. After graduating from my secondary school, I got admission and had to leave and there was need for the family to employee a care giver to be taken care of her. The first person we employed nearly killed her as she was always adding sleeping tablets to her drugs. She got sick and was rushed to the hospital as the doctor complained of giving her overdose sleeping drugs. We asked her and she couldn't deny it. We employed another one who was stealing money that my uncles gave for her upkeep and food items which was discovered through the hidden CCTV cameras. Seeing what we went through, we decide to hire someone we know. I had to leave school to stay with her for a while and I was asking around for someone who can stay with her because I needed to go back to school.
Fortunately on my way to the market one-day, I met Iya Michael ( Michael's Mom)our former neighbor who was looking for house in our area, she asked of my grandma and I narrated what she has been going through.
Iya Michael told me how my grandma assisted her when she was in need and promise to come take care of her. That was how she moved in with us and took care by bathing, cooking, washing her clothes and playing with my grandma as if she was her mother till she died.
From this experience, I see old age as harvest season where all that you have done while you are young start coming back to you. Old age weakens, and puts even the mighty in the hands of commoner. How Old age will be to everyone is a factor of how we treat the younger generations now. It's painful when one couldn't get help at old age.
In summary, sow the seed of kindness and you will surely reap it one day, you might not reap it where you have sown it but you will surely get it elsewhere.
Thanks for stopping by.

This picture and your story are a beautiful reminder of the importance of kindness and community care, especially in old age when we need support the most. It's wonderful to see how Iya Micheal repaid your grandma's kindness years later.
Community care is very important which I feel is eroding in our modern society unlike the african society that was practiced by our grand parents. Thanks for sharing your idea too.

True talk it will rely be painful if no help comes up.
It would actually.
It's quite something your grandmother went through. I experienced the same with the caretakers of a friend and today, after years, I still see her cry is despair because the took her last penny even though she slept on her wallet.
Your grandmother is lucky this kind woman was in the neighbourhood and able to take the care upon her. It is not an easy task.
Thank you for sharing this heartfelt story.
