Hive after death – 5 Minute free write

in Freewriters28 days ago (edited)

An interesting thought came up while chatting on Discord, what will happen to my Hive account after I die? Well I think for most they will power down way before then, or possibly liquidate their funds to their family upon death. That makes the most sense and I think that will be how most people leave the chain finally if they passed away.

But in the future, what if you could train an AI chat bot based on every post and comment you have made for years on the Hive blockchain. And then upon death this bot is flipped on, and will scour the blockchain leaving “insightful” comments based on the AI’s training of yourself. If the training shows I left a lot of comments on gardening posts it will keep doing so, and behave the same way I did. Focusing on communities and tags that interested me in the past... maybe throw a random one every so often.

Like a digital immortality, or posthumous AI.

Maybe its a bad idea, it could be considered spam. But if AI is that good in another 40 or so years, just imagine dead Hive users still interacting on chain. With turing tests showing chat bots can be quite realistic, in another few decades its hard to imagine where we will be.

Its a weird thought, but one none the less.

You could set up a fund in your will and trust to keep it going for years, or even based on income from upvotes on the comments it could keep going forever. Just need a server, script and AI software running on the machine its posting from.

But this all sounds very elaborate and just a “shower thought”. But even now I know of people that used to post on Hive that are now dead, and their auto vote keeps going. Its a little strange, but taking it to the next level having your avatar continue to leave comments after your death is an interesting idea...

That's indeed an interesting thought to ponder, but to be honest, the discussion about AI being able to learn one's content creation or commenting gives me chills. Additionally, I had a quick chat in Snap about an AI that can operate a computer using the mouse, and that is definitely scary! 😨

These kinds of discussions remind me of the movie Transcendence. The AI in the film became intelligent enough to operate the internet, steal money from banks, purchase a country, and build infrastructure.

Oh I need to check out that movie... sounds like it could be interesting.

It was weird (scary) back then but now it feels relevant especially now that AI is a popular topic.

Lol I thought about this too.

a.i. @krazzytrukker immortality..?

Say it isn't so!

I already have this guy following me around. Now if I could make him live forever.

Scary

haha that damn guy always following.. good to see others have that problem too.. thought it was just a me issue.

I think I saw something about creating AI 'personalities' of deceased people so that family could still interact with them. Maybe that can be an option, but I think life has to end at some point. Do we want most of our interactions to be with machines or should we value living people more? Let the machines do the boring bits like filling in tax returns and debugging code so we have more time to be creative.

Oh, and congrats on becoming a whale! We need more big accounts spreading the rewards.

A very interesting exercise that you present here. I think that, from my personal perspective, I'm obviously not yet ready for such a future. Where someone I know here on Hive is perpetuated by their inputs over time and an AI entity produces comments and thoughts. Nowadays, I know that it's already possible to write plays in the style of well-known playwrights, or even literary works in the style of someone famous who is no longer with us. I'm sure that's a very likely future for which I'm not yet psychologically prepared...
Cheers!

It sure is an interesting thought, so I guess we will see how AI plays out over the next few decades.

There will be a lot of information about us in posts and comments. You can also turn on a video recording of your life for one year and then our artificial clone will be almost indistinguishable from us.

Ah I should do something like that.. lol

I've heard this idea discussed before with legacy social media, I really like the extra layer of complexity that a tokenized account would add.

I haven't really been that interested in AI yet, but I think you just sent me down the rabbit hole. I'll have to see what fresh hell this spawns for me before I know if I want to thank you, or curse you. 🤣

Haha no worries good luck going down the rabbit hole.

I've actually been thinking for a while now about what might happen to my crypto in general if something were to happen to me. I think I have even posted about it a couple of times. I don't know if my wife would be able to track down all the different accounts I have. I think eventually I will need to write up some kind of exit plan for her just in case.

Ah yeah that is a good document to keep just in case.

Some things we do not like to think about but we should.

I know right! I really need to get on that sometime. It would be a shame for all of this fake Internet money to get lost to the ether!

You have raised a very good question. Very few Hive users would have thought about this. You have given this idea well, but according to my opinion, every Hive user should make one post in a certain community in which he should mention some personal information and some family contacts like email, whatsapp number and x- handle etc that must be hidden for other users except Hive official and that particular user. So after 100 days Hive official must contact his family to run a hive account or sell account. Hive officials must remember the work of the user and make his money secure to give his family instead.

Yes people should make sure they can hand down things to other people in case of death.

But even now I know of people that used to post on Hive that are now dead, and their auto vote keeps going. Its a little strange

Ohh dear this gives me the chills🤧

it is quite weird.. but a part of life I guess.

Imagine deceased Hiver’s chat bots, chatting with other deceased Hiver’s bots…

Oh man, that would be very strange.

I heard once a similar thought. It was that we will likely be the last generation to die. That was referring to my generation, Gen X, but it could be older Millennials too. The idea is that for younger generations, there is so much info about them stored digitally—photos, blog posts, private diary entries, etc—that when they actually die, their kids will feed all this info into AI and boom, an AI version of the dead person will pop up, one that looks like and sounds like the dead person, with all of their opinions and thoughts. So even though though grandma is actually dead, for all appearances to future generations she will be alive forever to spread whatever wisdom or gossip she has to spread.

In effect, future generations will live forever (in a sense).

That would be really interesting to see how it would play out over generations... lol I can see all kinds of weird interactions occurring.

I'm hoping my son can take it over. Is that allowed? Otherwise, the kids will have to cash out. I never intend to cash out😂

You can do what ever you want with your Hive account, as long as its legal where you live I guess.

That is good to hear.

Wow... I don't think about what happened to my hive account when I died, but from now on I have known it to my son about the current power work, maybe my son will want to continue this work of mine in the future, I hope so.

Makes sense, I think most people will pass down ownership to their children.

Yes, that's right, but sometimes a child has his own talent, but for a father it is mandatory to tell his children about the work that his father is engaged in.

Your thoughts have taken you in the wrong direction. During one of my recent visits to the graveyard, I made enquiries with some of the people resting there about this matter.
Upon departure from this world, the current hive account will automatically be set to 'Celestial'. What's more, there's no need for an AI for the celestial posts, as the boss up there (the one with the long grey beard) always has a pretty good suggestion. He also has a whole bunch of well-trained secretaries at his disposal to do all the tedious typing work.😎
At least that's what I know!

Its hard to say how it will all play out, I guess time will tell.

My advice would be to enjoy a large portion of Optimums for breakfast.😉

Maybe brain transplant could be a common thing after 40 years 🤪. So you would live forever.

Hah you never know... it could be possible.

That's so weird, I wouldn't want to know what happens after my exit.

The thought concerning a post humus AI is really an intriguing one, but I don't know if I would want that though.

That is a bit disturbing, I think the idea of powering down and liquidating is more appealing unless my descendants want to continue posting on HIVE which at this point my son isn't interested in it.

I see dead people, I mean I see whale accounts with zero activity, maybe we already have dead hiveans
