Mirabella was an inquisitive girl and she had a rather odd pastime- that of looking up words in a dictionary quite often. While other children were seen frolicking outside, she was seen either by the window or lying on her bed, intently studying a large blue hard covered Oxford dictionary. Every time there was a new word to learn, it was similar to finding a new location which was full of possibilities.
When Mirabella was in school one day, the teacher made a certain announcement, that there was going to be a spelling competition. Her classmates burst into laughter as she indicated her interest on representing her school but she wasn’t bothered. She had invested a lot of time in learning the roots, the implications, not only the definitions of the words, she had been preparing for a day like this and she knew she would make her school proud. On that day, and up to the last word, she was standing, and spelling the word out accurately one letter after another.
Then came the last word ‘serendipity’. Mirabella beamed, for less than a day ago she had memorized that word. She with great confidence, spelt the word correctly and the crowd burst into cheers. It was not only that she was the winner of the spelling bee; she had shown that her interest in words was the most powerful weapon for her, a magical kind of weapon, that would perhaps take her farther than she ever imagined.

I recall reading the dictionary one time like Mirabel and my friends thought it was weird. But look, it paid off for her in the end.
Yes it did pay off! Thank you very much 🙏
Akeelah and the spelling bee... You got me thinking of those today's again.
Nice way to see the picture.
The story was actually inspired by it 😁

Yes a wonderful word story indeed! Thank you very much 🙏
Teenagers able to spell is rare "these days". I was flabbergasted as I saw how few students know about their language these days and what can be found in a dictionary.
You are right, it's unfortunate the state of education is a mess.
Thank you very much 🙏
