What's with the stigma attached with cigar you might want to ask.
For a world as this, having a percentage of people value cigars and another percentage 'throw stones' at it can be quite discriminating. Of course you've heard the saying, one man's food is another man's poison-thus, this gap should be seen as normal. However, the ideal question is, why is cigar seen as 'poison' for most people?
(Disclaimer, this article is not to preach against Cigar in any way. It's only to create an awareness on the general knowledge on cigars. My belief however, is that everyone has the right to live a life that is pleasing and no-one has a right to interfere).
Back to the storyline, it is important to atleast know what cigar is. A cigar is a rolled bundle of dried and fermented tobacco leaves, made to be smoked. History has it that it was discovered by Christopher Columbus, who was seen smoking the substance in 1492, and ever since was adopted by millions of people around the globe.
By the way, tobacco, with the botanical name of Nicotiana tabacum is a plant with high levels of Nicotine, which is an addictive drug and has both stimulating and depressing effects. Its intake can speed up the activities of the nervous system which alters the mind in a psychoactive manner.
It could be used as various stimulants in products like cigars, pipe tobacco, cigarettes, snuffs and chewing tobacco.
In the production of cigars, tobacco leaves could either be cured, aged or processed.
Features of Cigars.
For an average person who don't know how to identify a cigar when seen, its quite simple. Cigars are rolled tobacco wrap in a tobacco leaf. It can be identified as a cylindrical roll of tobacco consisting of cut tobacco filler in a binder leaf with a wrapper leaf rolled spirally around its bunch. It consists of combusted tobacco products that has a filler, binder, and wrapper, which are all derived from tobacco.
Are cigarettes and cigars the same, you might ask. No, they are not. This is owing to the fact that, cigars are rolled up in tobacco leaves, while cigarettes are not. They are rolled in non-tobacco products/leaves. Cigars are bigger in size and gives off alot of smoke when inhaled.
However, they are three main types of cigars.
Little cigars: Also known as miniature cigars, it contains tobacco for which 1000 units weigh less than three pounds. They look so much like cigarettes when seen from afar but remember, cigars are rolled up in tobacco leaves(usually in brown colour) while cigarettes are not.
Cigarillos : They appear thinner than the normal (large) cigars and are wrapped in tobacco leaves or brown tobacco paper other than that of cigarettes.
Large cigars: These are cigars that have lengths up to 10 inches and ring gauges with different sizes. They are great for a longer smoking period. They are otherwise known as the Presidente cigar size.
In as much as people smoke cigars as shields for extreme weather conditions or just for its pleasure, it is necessary to highlight the possible effects of its regular intake.
- Cigars heightens the risk of lung cancer: Well, its true. Normal biology states that humans breathes in oxygen and breathes out carbon dioxide right? In essence it means that, anything other than the oxygen that it needs is a threat. Infact, it can cause cancers of the mouth and throat, even if you do not inhale (that is, if you are constantly seen around those who smoke it).
- Cigars are not safe alternatives to cigarettes. They are alot more harmful.
- Cigar smoking can cause lung cancer and heart disease.
- It promotes tooth loss, bad breath, stained teeth and gum diseases.
Conclusively, its a matter of choice if you decide to smoke it, but it is health wise if you don't. However, it's important that all things are done in moderation to prevent havoc.
Thanks for your time, it's deeply valued.
