Sonny was driving down the highway in his convertible on a gorgeous, sunny day when something unexpectedly crossed the road, prompting him to slam on the brakes. Despite the fact that Sonny was able to rapidly apply the brakes, he had the impression that his automobile had collided with something. Sonny, alarmed, rushed down to his car to investigate the situation. Not far from his car, he saw an animal lying on the road, unmoving.
Seeing this, Sonny approached the deer quickly, fearful that he had killed it. When he looked over, he was relieved to see that the deer was still breathing. But he was startled when the deer regained consciousness after he touched it. The deer tried to get up to get away from Sonny, as one would expect from a wild animal, but it couldn't.
Sonny noticed that the hind legs of the deer were broken. Its left hind leg appeared to be in worse condition. Sonny, feeling guilty and sorry for the animal, decided to call for assistance and swiftly took out his phone. Sonny promptly dialed 911 and informed dispatch of what had occurred.
Sonny could have simply driven away because there were no witnesses, but his conscience wouldn't let him, so he did what he thought was right. Soon after, Sonny heard sirens from a distance, indicating that help had arrived.
Sonny received a call from the police a few days later, requesting that he go to the city zoo. Sonny was greeted by a member of the zoo's staff when he arrived. The attendants then led him to an enclosure, where he appeared to be the deer he had unintentionally run over.
The weight on Sonny's shoulders are finally lifted as he sees the deer recuperate and appear healthy. When he asked the veterinarian about the deer's injuries, the veterinarian answered that the deer would need time to fully heal but that it would be able to stand up soon. Hearing the veterinarian's guarantee, Sonny finally felt relieved.
