Love or Cliches (poem)

in Freewriters2 days ago

Cliches have won us over
What does the rose know of love? if its thorns stick into us
Attracted by an ephemeral but violent beauty
What do they know, if more somersaults have been done over fields of daisies
than over their artificially torn petals

Cliches have won us over
What do candles know of love? If your light doesn't last
And even though it burns us on contact like passion itself
We know that every time it lights up, it's closer to its end
But love promises to be eternal every time it shines

Yes, cliches have won us over
Because the bitterness of chocolate or coffee has nothing to do with love
No matter how much we sweeten it and go around and around
Love should be lighter, although just as addictive
Away from migraines, love should be for everyone

We're clear, we lost to cliches
Now if you put together a rose, a candle and something to drink, it's inevitable to think about love.
