The inspiration for that was the creative process itself, just trying to write or make art on a day-to-day basis, but I’ve been visiting family recently, and have been surrounded by a number of recovering alcoholics, and I think the same poem applies to addiction and a number of other things.
A common saying is to just surrender, to just give in and let go, but without the tension there in the first place, there is no letting go.
