as much as you startled me
little snake
you can’t surrender until
you’ve fought the battle.
with bacon eggs and coffee
then it slips by
my father watches my son
taking his first steps.
as they drink beers in the yard,
the Lawn Chair Kings.
always know which way to go
and when to go home
no matter how slight it may be
is too much today

Oh my goodness that grandfather poem is fantastic! I love that one so much. Nice use of gerunds, framing the the whole shebang, beginning and endings. Great!
I always scream, loudly, when a snake startles me. It scurries away. I think yes,
I love love love your tiny poems. I feel like I have received chocolate in the mail when I first see your posts.
What a wonderful thing to say. Thank you!
Snakes … they’re funny. Sometimes you only hear them, so you know something’s there, and you’re pretty sure it’s a snake, but then you have to find them, and while you’re looking, all kinds of things go through your head.
Ah yes #4 and the Circle of Life.
It’s always right there in front of us, isn’t it. 😊
The fifth line is so true, I've seen drunk men drop statements that answers a problem. Their mind and brain seems to be wide with ideas as they sit drinking beer.
Maybe we need to give some inventors beer to help them come up with solutions to complex problems 😂
Something tells me that wouldn’t help very much. 🤣
But anything is worth a try.
Hahaha its indeed worth a try
I love your short poems! They are deep and capture the essence of fleeting moments of everyday life. Second one speaks to me more...what if a person surrenders before the battle is fought? 🤔 Defeat or cowardice?
That’s a good question. After thinking about it a bit, I think you could say that surrendering before a battle is actually fought hides the battle that goes on in a person’s head or heart to make the decision to surrender.
When we feel that something is worth fighting for, but realize that we are in an overwhelming situation and can never win, the decision to give up or give in doesn’t come without internal conflict.
The second one is so deep. Not deciding wisely which battles to pick, giving up on dreams ... a plethora of "reasons" come to mind when reading your lines.
The inspiration for that was the creative process itself, just trying to write or make art on a day-to-day basis, but I’ve been visiting family recently, and have been surrounded by a number of recovering alcoholics, and I think the same poem applies to addiction and a number of other things.
A common saying is to just surrender, to just give in and let go, but without the tension there in the first place, there is no letting go.
Thanks for sharing your creative journey behind these words. Duality as in tension & surrender is part of our 3D realm.
You always give me such fascinating comments regarding our reality. They remind of the comments that Abraham often gives through its mediums (if that’s the proper way to say it).
Thanks! I'm glad I can provide a different perspective on things. We're all caught up in all these patterns and yanking us out of them turns out to be very rewarding.
True words!
Begins well and then … wait, it’s over already.
Third poem spoke to me so deeply. This is how I'm mostly feeling about my days now.
These tiny poems are so great. Reminds me that in life, sometimes it's the little things that matter.
Days, weeks, months, and entire lives have a way of just slipping by if you let them. It’s hard to believe how fast it all goes by. Enjoy the small things.
Short films that make you reflect on the moments of life and what it means to walk on this torrid path.
I loved the last one. Verses as poetic as they are real.
Thanks for sharing.
Good day.
Thank you. I like that last one too. It feels kind of special to me for some reason.
