William is maudlin (Original poem).

in Blockchain Poets3 years ago

William is maudlin.

Yellow as sunlight in the morning, twenty years old
Tossing and turning, William is a brave soul.
Sentimental, lonely
Close to his chest, tangled in his lungs
The angst would define him for my eyes.

Molecules are rewarding through the night
And then destroyers in the day.
A tongue that loves the cycle,
But a mind that detests it,
He often thinks of a career
That comes to an end.

What feels like a century,
And the rootless struggle of the daily grind
Dreams come with the tide, warm and sweet
And with the red light of twilight,
They become greener and icy in his riverbed.

Unlike mine, his truth is wider and clearer
A soft voice and hug, tender like a melody
William's soul costs more than the sun
For me.

Hello dear writers of Hive, today I wanted to share this short piece that I have been writing and rewriting, erasing, and constructing again. William is a fictional character that has lived with me for over a decade. I see him live inside of countless men, including myself.

I guess that this poem (if I may dare to call it that) is a reflection of the intrinsic sensibility inside of some of us, those who live in an endless battle for the discovery of things, like purpose, meaning, and wisdom.

As everything, life is consuming, and the clock keeps ticking, so I constantly think that we should try and stick to discipline to make our life better, and be true to ourselves to live the life that we really want to live, without harming others, and making the most of every day. Thank you very much for taking the time to stop by.

Until next time! Greetings.

Cesar.

Wow. I love this. It starts so simply with the declarative statement and then blossoms out into a five-line sentence full of imagery. And then comes back to a simple reflection. Very moving.

I am humbled by your kind words sir @hilbyguy, thank you so much for taking the time to read it. It really makes me smile when somebody says something positive about what I wrote, so I’m glad that you enjoyed it.

Truly, most of us waste time away without realizing what we are letting go of. It is only time, which has the power to make us reunite with ourselves. You might be wondering as to why am I bringing time here, it is because of your first two verses;

Yellow as sunlight in the morning, twenty years old
Tossing and turning, William is a brave soul.

It kind of gives off the impression that time here plays the major game. Even from your further discussion, I felt that TIME is what we are losing, the purposelessness and lack of wisdom, eventually derails us from time, doesn't it? So, I think.

I agree: Time is a decisive resource in our lifespan. Surely we all waste it sometimes and somehow, some of us try to harness it to make the most of our lives with it, and some pursue it until they have extracted the last single drop into something they really want. However, I think that we all go through stages, in which biology also plays a vital role because it limits us to invert the time in what we actually want. We think that we are free in our minds and will, but they are widely determined by our chemicals and cells.
I guess that what I am trying to say is that we all grow and somehow go through the same paths as many before us until we really get aware of our reality, and the purpose we want to fulfill to live a better life.
I wish that I gave myself to be understood with all this. I salute you and thank you greatly for your contribution. Thanks also for taking the time to read what I wrote. Greetings.

It was a pleasure reading. Thanks for replying to me too. I guess I understand it better now. It is more than time, it is about self-growth, self-awareness, and purpose of life.

Yeah, it is great. "A tongue that loves but a mind that detest it" I like so much this phrase...
