Mataram King's Tomb - Kuthagêdhé, Yogyakarta

YOGYAKARTA.jpg

When talking about the city of Yogyakarta, it is inseparable from the previous kings. Before uniting into a country, there were many regions that were previously founded by a king. Many areas should have a regional head called; King. Now, all regions in Indonesia are led by a regional head called; Governor.

One of the previous kingdoms that has now lost its tradition is the Yogyakarta area. I who still travel around using a traditional becak (pedicab; 3-wheeled public transportation that is pedaled like a bicycle). I took the time to go to one area that is certainly a must-visit. Kuthagedhe, also known as Kota Gede.

This is the place of the previous Mataram kings, who lived in the city of Yogyakarta. Honestly, I don't have much historical knowledge about this area which eventually became Yogyakarta which was formerly called Kotagedhe, but this is the origin of the Yogyakarta kingdom which was previously founded by the Mataram kingdom.

Long story short, the Mataram kingdom used to be one and was located in Kotagede, until it finally expanded and split into two, namely the Yogyakarta kingdom and the Surakarta kingdom. One of the previous relics is the Kotagede area in Yogyakarta. Here it is a place of worship as well as a cemetery for the kings of Mataram.

The place is so spacious, but it has been squeezed by the area inhabited by the people of Yogyakarta and is in direct contact. The main door is also very close to the local residents, I don't know how it could be like this but I think it's a shame that this could happen. This place should be given space and can be protected, especially as an area that will attract tourists. Because to be honest, it's very interesting to learn about the Mataram kingdom.

The area is guarded by people who are trusted by the kingdom to be cared for and also to manage the guests who come. Usually there are many people who use this place as a place of worship or prayer, for Javanese adherents. Javanese is the name of a religion believed in by the Javanese people.

Among them, there are many special places for prayer, such as houses without walls that are deliberately blended with nature, so that the spiritual element is attached to nature. This place is so strong with simple buildings that are still very original from the previous kingdom, although some have been deliberately renovated for the comfort of worship for its adherents. Special rituals are also often performed to welcome special days where this place will be cleaned from guests who come and specifically for prayer.

There are many tombs of the Mataram kings in it but not for outsiders. So you can only get to the front gate, the wall is a little high and even difficult to climb.

This place is free for anyone who wants to come, but remember that you must wear polite and closed clothes. In my opinion, you have to watch your behavior because there are many guards watching, so it is highly recommended to behave politely in order to maintain this place, which is a very sacred place for the people of Yogyakarta.

See you the next time hive friends!

The tomb of the king is very beautiful, and very clean, I was very entertained to see it ❤️

It's not that clean, but it's really quiet.
