A short trip to Osho Ashram in Mysore, India.

in Worldmappin4 years ago

Last year I was lucky enough to visit Mother India just before the pandemic started. I got in my first Yoga Teacher Training and parallel to this I was able to check out some nice places in Mysore. Mysore is a small but very rich city in Southern Indian state Karnataka. It is a royal city and as such has some beautiful palaces and overall atmosphere of quality and luxury that is hard to find in other places in India.

Today I will tell ou about a place I foud totally by accident - it is an Osho Ashram in the outskirts of the city. I decided I would offer my photography services on the local facebook groups and the owner of the place contacted me, offering to accomodate me at the ashram so I can feel the atmosphere and eventualy take some pictures.

The place is situated in the vast fields between Chamundi Hills and Mysore and is calm and secluded. There are different types of small houses for accomodation.

The place has lush gardens with over a thousand different types of flowers and fruit trees.
We arrived in the evening and were welcomed by the smell of the special "Night Queen" Flower tree, which smells like heaven and blossoms only during the night.

Me and my girlfriend were welcomed by one of the volunteers at the ashram - Jay Ram. He took us to the dining area, which is an open space covered by a roof, and there we met the founder of the Ashram for dinner. The next day we had time to look around the place and take some pictures as it was negotiated with the owner.

This is the main residential building, where Vidyadhara (The owner) lives. They are currently building a few houses like this one. The other accomodations are different from eachother, which makes the place really interesting. There are the bungallows for couples :

And a house for a larger group of people :

There's of course the open space dining area :

And the lush gardens, ponds and amazing views to the Mysore fields :

And as the place is an Ashram where spiritual practice occurs there is an amazing and vast hall that has Osho's portrait on the wall :

I hope my pictures give you a feel of the place and I wish I will be able to lead a group there some time when the Covid Crysis settles.
