Hello everyone and happy new year!
In this post I want to tell you about what I did on New Year’s Eve.
As every year at Christmas time my brothers and I decide to go to the mountains for holidays, they love skiing and I look for new places to visit.
This year we decided to go to Mont Blanc, specifically Saint Gervais les Bains in France. For those who do not know the Mont Blanc is the highest mountain in the Alps and Europe, it is located on the border between Italy and France.

in questo post voglio raccontarvi di quello che ho fatto a capodanno.
Come ogni anno nel periodo natalizio io e i miei fratelli decidiamo di andare in montagna per le vacanze, loro amano sciare e io cerco nuovi posti da visitare.
Quest’anno abbiamo deciso di andare sul Monte Bianco, precisamente Saint Gervais les Bains in Francia. Per chi non lo sapesse il Monte Bianco è la montagna più alta delle Alpi e d'Europa, si trova al confine tra Italia e Francia.
For the first day of the year, we decided to go on a hike and see the Mer de Glace. It is located in the northern part of the Alps valley on the Mont Blanc massif.
It is formed by the union of the Tacul and Leschaux glaciers, ending in the territory of Chamonix.
The easiest way to reach the glacier is to take the Montenvers cable car, which from the station of Chamonix, through a panoramic path arrives at the station of Montenvers at 1900 mt. of altitude.
The journey takes about 20 minutes and you can admire wonderful landscapes.
Per il primo giorno dell’anno, abbiamo deciso di fare un'escursione e di andare a vedere il Mer de Glace. Si trova nella parte settentrionale della valle delle Alpi sul massiccio del Monte Bianco.
Si forma dall’unione del ghiacciaio del Tacul e del ghiacciaio di Leschaux finendo proprio nel territorio di Chamonix.
Il modo più semplice per raggiungere il ghiacciaio è prendere la Funivia del Montenvers, che partendo dalla stazione di Chamonix, tramite un sentiero panoramico arriva alla stazione di Montenvers a 1900 mt. di altitudine.
Il viaggio dura circa 20 minuti ed è possibile ammirare meravigliosi paesaggi.
Once you arrive, before reaching the ice cave, you can stop and admire the landscape of the glacier, see the valley and mountains in its magnificence.
There are also bars and restaurants for those who want to stop and take a short break with this spectacular view of the Mont Blanc.
Then you go down to take the cable car that leads up to the beginning of the staircase to reach the cave.
Una volta arrivati, prima di raggiungere la grotta di ghiaccio, è possibile fermarsi e ammirare il paesaggio del ghiacciaio, vedere la valle e le montagne nella sua magnificenza.
Qui ci sono anche dei bar e ristoranti per chi volesse fermarsi e fare una piccola pausa con questa spettacolare vista sul Monte Bianco.
Dopodiché si scende per prendere la funivia che porta fino all’inizio della scalinata per raggiungere la grotta.
The descent is made up of about 480 steps, it is not very strenuous as the steps are not steep and there are many places to stop.
The climate is very cold and the strong and icy winds are increasing as you descend into the valley. Once you arrive you can enter this wonderful ice cave.
The experience is unique and must do if you are in the area.
La discesa è formata da circa 480 gradini, non è molto faticosa in quanto i gradini non sono ripidi e ci sono molte piazzole per fermarsi.
Il clima è molto rigido e scendendo verso la vallata aumentano i forti e gelidi venti. Una volta arrivati si può entrare in questa meravigliosa grotta di ghiaccio.
L’esperienza è unica e assolutamente da fare se ci si trova in zona.
Once you enter there is a predetermined path to follow, you can find ice sculptures, specially made by the workers who can represent animals or objects. These sculptures are temporary, in fact every year will be redone.
In the tunnel, through the lights that enter inside the cracks of the glacier, beautiful light games are created that give a magical atmosphere to the cave.
The cave is dug every summer. This experience is unique, it allows us just like real explorers, to see the glacier from their point of view, but it must also make us think about the fragility of alpine glaciers.
Una volta entrati c’è un percorso prestabilito da seguire, si possono trovare sculture di ghiaccio, realizzate appositamente dagli addetti che possono rappresentare animali o oggetti. Queste sculture sono temporanee, infatti ogni anno verranno rifatte.
Nel tunnel tramite le luci che entrano all’interno delle fessure del ghiacciaio si creano dei giochi di luce bellissimi che danno un’atmosfera magica alla grotta.
La grotta viene scavata ogni estate. Questa esperienza è unica, ci consente proprio come dei veri esploratori, di vedere il ghiacciaio dal loro punto di vista, ma ci deve anche far riflettere sulla fragilità dei ghiacciai alpini.

Il Mer de Glace è un luogo straordinario, assolutamente da visitare, molto bello e ricco di storia, ma anche un esempio dei cambiamenti che stanno avvenendo nell'ambiente a causa del riscaldamento globale.
