Hehe it was was granted city status on May 20, 2022 as part of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee civic honors competition not long before she passed away on September the 8th.
I loved stained glass windows and can stare for ages.
Oh wow, so not nearly as early as I had thought. So was it just considered part of another city before that? I might have missed it if you said so in the post.
It was a town before that. Over here you only become a city by Royal decree, unofficially it was thought if there was a cathedral then a town becomes a city. Not so, the monarch has to say yes you are now a city.
Ah okay, that makes sense! Very interesting. Even the process is so full of history!
