Hello Travelers,

Hope you are doing well and today I would like to tell about a day i spent in an Elephant orphanage. In Sri Lanka, there is a nursery and orphanage for elephants in Pinnawala. This place is very popular among foreign and local tourists.

It was a Sunday and In Sri Lanka almost all the companies are closing and give holidays to the employees to be with their families. So my cousins suggested to arrange a trip. When we were selecting a place to visit, there were few suggestions and everybody love to spend a day with elephants.

So Sunday morning we went to the Pinnawala Orphanage. There were around 100 wild Asian elephants. Staff looked after them very well.
when we went there, elephants were on the way to have a bath. Mahout is the person who looked after them.

This photo shows how much they love to bath. They are running to the river side.

The river was drying out due to the hot weather. So mahout bath them using a pressured water pipe.

After the bath, they go back to the orphanage to have their lunch. Around 70 kgs of Jack tree leaves, Coconut tree parts are the main foods for them. In addition to that 2 kg of Rice bran is given.

I also got a chance to give some fruits to them. This is me, giving a pineapples. They are very friendly with human and no harm at all.
