Genoa: Italian façades in front of the sea

in Worldmappinlast year (edited)

Hello people and pinmapplers!

There are places that fascinate us, we visit them looking from all sides, and many times they are special cities with a special charm. Although in Italy it is difficult to find anywhere that is not beautiful and wonderful.

So this time we discovered a big city with a big port. Genoa, or Genova in Italian, was a great maritime and military power for centuries and all that history and a lot of art is shown to us when we arrive because it is a city that continues to look at the sea.

Indeed, its colorful façades seem to want to look out over the coast, to breathe that sea air or to enjoy the views of everything we discover in front of us.

Because the port continues to be the nerve center of the city, where life is concentrated, and also entertainment, different places to visit, but the great aquarium full of marine life stands out without a doubt, in an unparalleled environment.

There are other different complexes, throughout the area called Porto Antico (old port) where we listen to different stories of what happened there in the past...

But there nearby in the square what catches our attention the most is the incredible façade decorated with a beautiful palace, the Palace of San Giorgio, as if it were an immense painting full of dignity and history and with all the official flags. Amazing.

Then we realize that beyond there is more city, not everything is in the port near the sea, but the city rises, rises as the slope increases, and we find ourselves in increasingly narrower streets that take us to another time through cobbled streets that lead us to many old buildings, until we find ourselves in small squares with unique elements, to begin with, the city's Cathedral, which is very curious with its striped façade, like a sailor's shirt. A flirtatious, impeccable and impressive style.

There are other notable churches, elegant palaces and even medieval towers. Diverse designs and architectural styles that are shown as we advance through the many twists and turns of Genoa.

But we return to beautiful, wider avenues to reach a spectacular square, De Ferrari Square where a large fountain stands out in a fantastic way, and we realize the elegance and beauty of this great Italian city.

We can continue walking towards the coast again, to enjoy a seafront promenade, despite the bad weather, it is never a bad time to listen to the sound of the waves and get away from the noise and hustle and bustle, an urban space but one of tranquility that, without realizing it takes us to a unique space full of character and color (despite the cloudy day).

What was once a humble fishing area, Boccadasse, this is today almost a bucolic environment that also seems to become the setting for a painting. A fishing town with its own charm that is improved to continue attracting attention, to arouse curiosity in those who visit it and to become an unmissable point of interest if we really want to know the essence of Genoa.

A city that has always lived with power and elegance facing the sea, becoming a special, interesting place and, as always happens in Italy, another memory of impressive beauty.

What a memories! I spent many weekends in Genoa, when I was a girl. The last weekend was a holiday with my husband.

Oh really? Cool, it's a nice city, a good scenario for lovely memories 😊

I just love the scenery there. A lot of old historic looking buildings, the sea, and how nature just pops in your eyes although your still standing in the city.

I'm curious about that ship. I'm taking it is a replica of an old famous ship?

Hope your week is going smooth and your weekend holds fun things to come. !HUG

Thanks! I love that kind of cities, where you have all around (even very good food) jaja and the sea of course despite the weather was not very nice later... About the ship, actually I do not know, probably a replica as in the past the Genovese were known as naval republic, etc...

Have also a wonderful day and enjoy your weekend!🤗🤗

I myself like old buildings like this very much because they look very beautiful and strong and we see all these things in the pictures.

Thanks! Glad you like the buildings and this city! Happy Sunday!
