MERIDA, UNA DE LAS MARAVILLAS DE LOS ANDES VENEZOLANOS
Hoy deseo llevarlos conmigo a rememorar mis viajes a Mérida.
Mérida es una de las ciudades que más me enamoran por su clima, su gente, sus paisajes coloridos, sus montañas, así como sus parques tanto naturales como temáticos. Todo eso es una mezcla entre pasado y presente que cautiva.
Yo particularmente disfruto el viaje desde que cierro la puerta de mi casa y me dirijo al auto que me llevara a vivir una nueva aventura hasta que regreso de vuelta a mi hogar.
Son muchas las cosas que van conectando conmigo en el camino y a medida que voy pasando de estado en estado vienen infinidad de recuerdos a mi memoria ya que por muchos años viví en Valencia, ciudad perteneciente al Estado Carabobo y en Tinaquillo y San Carlos, ciudades del Estado Cojedes y que están estrechamente ligadas a parte de mi adolescencia significando para mí una especial admiración por cada poblado que está a orilla de carretera, sus ríos y esos antiguos puentes de hierro que se aprecian a lo largo del camino hasta el Estado Barinas. Eso representa todo un regalo para mis ojos y mis emociones.
Fotos propias de esos lugares no tengo, igual les dejo por acá una que conseguí en San Google de uno de esos puentes de hierro que les comento.
Ahora bien, siempre he hecho el recorrido en dos etapas que desglosare a continuación:
- Día 1: Reencuentros de Amor
El recorrido del mismo transcurre entre Caracas y Barinas:
Esta primera etapa la aprovecho para ir visitando a amigos y familiares que tengo en los diferentes Estados que debo atravesar para llegar a Barinas, ciudad donde me quedo esa primera noche para recargar baterías. Ese día suelo quedarme en casa de un primo, eso si después de visitar a tías y madrinas que también viven en esa ciudad.
Ya con las energías renovadas comienza la segunda etapa llamada:
- Día 2: Abrazando la naturaleza
Este segundo día inicia tempranito, siendo la primera parada obligada en Barinitas que es un pueblito del Estado Barinas. Allí procuro desayunar para seguir el recorrido.
Barinitas es un pueblo bastante colorido lleno de restaurantitos en la vía que invitan a sentarse a degustar de su comida, con un clima fresco y bonitas vistas. Es la puerta de salida del Estado Barinas si decides viajar a Mérida por el Páramo.
Su carretera es estrecha pero con hermosos paisajes en la vía que es montañosa en su mayoría.
La segunda parada obligada es en el parador turístico “Cascada El velo de la novia” que se encuentra un poco más arriba del sector Mitisús, situado aproximadamente a quince minutos antes de Santo Domingo, que es otro pueblo del Estado Mérida.
No hay que desviarse, pues está a orilla de la carretera trasandina y a parte del disfrute que brinda a la vista ese majestuoso paisaje también hay otras ventajas con las que cuenta el parador turístico como estacionamiento, sanitarios, venta de comidas, bebidas y dulces típicos.
El paseo inicia por un sendero especialmente acondicionado que permite llegar de manera segura a la base de esa bella caída de agua natural, eso sí, les recomiendo ropa cómoda y zapatos preferiblemente deportivos ya que tendrán que subir unas cuantas escalinatas.
Imagínate rodeado de la naturaleza, sintiendo su abrazo entre el suave y relajante sonido de la cascada y el canto de los pájaros.
Todo ese ambiente conjuga para mí el ambiente perfecto para conectarme con mi interior, mientras mis ojos me regalan un paisaje lleno de color entre gamas de verdes que me rodean en la tierra y de azules que me cubren en el cielo.
Ya de regreso de ese primer paseo, me dispongo a seguir mi camino por la misma ruta que es la carretera trasandina.
Casi 15 minutos después de admirar la vista que me brinda la vía, llego al lindo pueblo de Santo Domingo, allí se encuentra el Hotel La Trucha Azul, un lugar muy pintoresco, les recomiendo darse una vueltita por sus instalaciones.
También se encontraran con muchas posadas, lugares de venta de artesanías y sitios de comida, todos con un toque muy particular que te conecta con la zona.

La próxima pausa en el camino irremediablemente se debe hacer en la Laguna de Mucubaji, ubicada en el Parque Sierra Nevada, en el Estado Mérida, inmensa e imponente en medio de todas esas montañas donde ha permanecido por más de 10 mil años.
Es sin dudar para mí, una de las paradas por excelencia. Allí uno se queda admirado entre toda esa belleza natural que encierra el parque, ofreciendo al visitante un paisaje naturalmente mágico y cautivador.
En los alrededores de la Laguna, se aprecian los frailejones, plantas típicas de los páramos merideños, siendo más fáciles de ver a la entrada del parque.
Este parque también cuenta con un lugar donde estacionar el vehículo, comer o beber algo, así como ventas de artesanía, abrigos, guantes, dulces y por supuesto baños públicos.
Otra bella vista del parque Sierra Nevada ya de vuelta a la trasandina.
La próxima parada que me encanta hacer en el camino es en San Isidro Apartaderos, en La Casa del Páramo, que es una especie de Galería Restaurante o viceversa y está en la vía de la transandina, no hay ni que desviarse.
La casa del Páramo se encuentra ya casi a la salida del pueblo, es una vivienda de estilo colonial que combina el arte con la buena cocina.
El lugar es digno de apreciar y recorrer varias veces pues cada rincón tiene un detalle especial por las artesanías que se encuentran en todos sus espacios.
Esta interesante casa donde conviven la galería y el restaurante también cuenta con un lindo jardín que forma parte del atractivo central del lugar.
Ya en la vía nuevamente y siguiendo la ruta hacia Mérida sigo admirando el paisaje que me brinda la carretera a mi paso.
El siguiente lugar que llama mi atención es la Capilla de Piedra, una bellísima obra de arte arquitectónico, hecha por el reconocido artista venezolano Juan Félix Sánchez quien nació en ese mismo pueblo. El construyo dicha capilla en honor a la Virgen de Coromoto.
Esta hermosa obra arquitectónica se encuentra justo en la entrada del pueblo de San Rafael de Mucuchíe. Esta obra fue construida en su totalidad a mano en los años 1980-1984, siendo utilizado solo rocas, conchas, corales y cemento para su elaboración.
Esta capilla fue declarada patrimonio cultural de Venezuela.
Ya como última visita antes de llegar a la ciudad de Mérida, está el Parque temático Los Aleros, ubicado en Tabay aproximadamente a 25 kilómetros de la ciudad.
De Los Aleros les hablare en una próxima entrega, ya que nuestro viaje aún no concluye.

MERIDA, ONE OF THE WONDERS OF THE VENEZUELAN ANDES
Today I want to take you with me to remember my trips to Merida.
Merida is one of the cities that I love the most for its climate, its people, its colorful landscapes, its mountains, as well as its natural and thematic parks. All this is a mix of past and present that captivates.
I particularly enjoy the trip from the moment I close the door of my house and head for the car that will take me to live a new adventure until I return home.
There are many things that connect with me along the way and as I go from state to state, countless memories come to my mind since for many years I lived in Valencia, a city belonging to the State of Carabobo and in Tinaquillo and San Carlos, cities of the State of Cojedes, which are closely linked to part of my adolescence, meaning for me a special admiration for each town that is on the roadside, its rivers and those old iron bridges that can be seen along the road to the State of Barinas. That represents a gift for my eyes and my emotions.
I don't have my own pictures of those places, but I'll leave you here one that I got in San Google of one of those iron bridges that I mention.
Now, I have always made the journey in two stages, which I will break down below:
- Day 1: Reencounters of Love.
The journey takes place between Caracas and Barinas:
I take advantage of this first stage to visit friends and relatives I have in the different states I have to cross to get to Barinas, the city where I stay that first night to recharge my batteries. That day I usually stay at a cousin's house, after visiting aunts and godmothers who also live in that city.
Already with renewed energies the second stage begins:
Day 2: Embracing nature
This second day starts early, being the first mandatory stop in Barinitas, a small town in the state of Barinas. There I try to have breakfast to continue the tour
Barinitas is a colorful town full of little restaurants on the road that invite you to sit and enjoy the food, with a cool climate and beautiful views. It is the gateway to Barinas State if you decide to travel to Merida through the Paramo.
Its road is narrow but with beautiful scenery on the road which is mostly mountainous.
The second obligatory stop is at the tourist stop "Cascada El velo de la novia" which is located a little above the Mitisús sector, located approximately fifteen minutes before Santo Domingo, which is another town in the State of Merida.
There is no need to detour, because it is on the edge of the trans-Andean highway and apart from the enjoyment that this majestic landscape offers to the view there are also other advantages that the tourist parador has such as parking, restrooms, sale of food, drinks and typical sweets.
The walk begins on a specially conditioned path that allows you to safely reach the base of this beautiful natural waterfall, yes, I recommend comfortable clothes and preferably sneakers because you will have to climb a few steps.
Imagine yourself surrounded by nature, feeling its embrace between the soft and relaxing sound of the waterfall and the birds singing.
All that atmosphere conjugates for me the perfect environment to connect with my inner self, while my eyes give me a landscape full of color between shades of green that surround me on earth and blues that cover me in the sky.
Already back from that first walk, I get ready to continue my way along the same route that is the trans-Andean road.
Almost 15 minutes after admiring the view that the road offers me, I arrive at the beautiful town of Santo Domingo, there is the Hotel La Trucha Azul, a very picturesque place, I recommend you to take a walk through its facilities.

You will also find many inns, places to sell handicrafts and places to eat, all with a very particular touch that connects you with the area.

The next pause on the road must inevitably be made in the Mucubaji Lagoon, located in the Sierra Nevada Park, in the State of Merida, immense and imposing in the middle of all those mountains where it has remained for more than 10 thousand years.
It is without a doubt for me, one of the stops par excellence. There you can admire all the natural beauty of the park, offering the visitor a naturally magical and captivating landscape.
In the surroundings of the lagoon, you can appreciate the frailejones, typical plants of the merideños moors, being easier to see at the entrance of the park.
This park also has a place to park your vehicle, eat or drink something, as well as sales of handicrafts, coats, gloves, sweets and of course public restrooms.

The next stop that I love to make on the road is in San Isidro Apartaderos, in the house of the paramo , which is a kind of Restaurant Gallery or vice versa and is on the transandina road, you don't even have to detour.
The house of the paramo is located almost at the exit of the village, it is a colonial style house that combines art with good cuisine.
The place is worth appreciating and touring several times because every corner has a special detail for the handicrafts that are found in all its spaces.
This interesting house where the gallery and the restaurant coexist also has a beautiful garden that is part of the central attraction of the place.
Already on the road again and following the route to Merida I continue admiring the landscape that the road offers me as I pass by.
The next place that catches my attention is the Capilla de Piedra, a beautiful work of architectural art, made by the renowned Venezuelan artist Juan Felix Sanchez who was born in that same town. He built this chapel in honor of the Virgin of Coromoto.
This beautiful architectural work is located right at the entrance of the town of San Rafael de Mucuchíe. This work was built entirely by hand in the years 1980-1984, being used only rocks, shells, corals and cement for its elaboration.
This chapel was declared cultural patrimony of Venezuela.
As a last visit before arriving in the city of Mérida, there is the Los Aleros theme park, located in Tabay, approximately 25 kilometers from the city.
I will tell you about Los Aleros in a future post, since our trip is not over yet.
