Hello everyone. As part of our trip to Georgia, we visited Borjomi and the small village of Damchkhreula located near Khashuri. It’s a tiny village nestled within nature and mountains. We spent a few days here, staying in an ecological complex called Rbona completely surrounded by nature. Upon arrival, we crossed an interesting bridge and headed to our accommodation. The beauty around us was breathtaking. We took a bus from Borjomi to Khashuri, got off midway and walked about one and a half kilometers. This place with its nature and the Kura river running alongside, is spectacular. We had seen the same river in Tbilisi, but here it flows crystal clear. The mountains and scenery are magnificent. Rbona is situated in a forest, tucked between the mountains.

We were greeted by local cows, which seemed to be waving their ears as if welcoming us. 😁 The bridge, like the village is also called Damchkhreula. The air is so clean and the beauty is indescribable. Other small villages are visible in the mountains, but they’re so tiny they can barely be noticed.

On our left was the Kura river and the natural surroundings were amazing. Georgia has many such unique places where you can immerse yourself in nature. It’s not easy to experience life like the locals in a small village surrounded solely by nature anywhere else in the world. If you enjoy this type of vacation, this place is perfect for you.

The village where Rbona is located has only 10 residents. Imagine being in a place where you’re completely one with nature. There was a gentle breeze and the atmosphere was simply mesmerizing. Vineyards, apple trees and even a wine production facility added to the charm. The village has a authentic atmosphere, with small cottages, vineyards and fresh air. There’s also a shared kitchen, a washing machine and a refrigerator. You can wash and dry your clothes here.

There are spots in the garden where you can sit and enjoy the fresh air. There’s even a small setup for playing tic-tac-toe, which we enjoyed with my friend. The garden also has hammocks, seating areas and spots where you can order food or drinks.

Sitting in such a warm and vibrant environment and simply enjoying nature is wonderful. With only 10 residents, this is the smallest village we’ve ever visited. Initially, I thought the village would be larger, but discovering such a small and peaceful place was a delightful surprise. A setting like this, where you can connect with nature is special.

Nearby, there was a chill area and a restaurant, which we visited later. The main building was covered with netting to prevent flies from entering. Inside there was a space resembling a living room or reception area. It had a television, a fireplace, books and an old-style Georgian ambiance. The walls featured beautiful paintings and there were display cabinets with serving sets.

The main building housed a restaurant and bar where you could order breakfast, lunch or dinner. They even brew their own beer. The meals are usually prepared using local ingredients. And there’s a trout farm nearby. Fresh trout is caught here and served for lunch or dinner.

There’s also a shared kitchen with amenities like a refrigerator and washing machine, allowing you to prepare your own meals if you wish. Our room was on the second floor and the nightly rate was 33 euros. It had a terrace where we could sit and enjoy tea or coffee while taking in the mountain views. For those who love the village atmosphere, this place is an absolute gem. It’s particularly popular among tourists from Europe.

Later we were taken to the trout farm, where we saw the pools where the fish are raised. My friend even fed the fish. The fresh trout is caught here and served in the restaurant, making the stay even more unique. There’s also a wine production facility. We were invited for a tasting and tried a white wine made from a blend of three grape varieties. It had a sweet aroma and was absolutely delicious, somewhat reminiscent of champagne.

The restaurant is designed with panoramic views. So you can enjoy stunning mountain and vineyard scenery during breakfast, lunch or dinner. Our table was ready and we were called over. We ordered white wine, which we had tried earlier and loved. Our meal included compote, bread, salad, an eggplant appetizer, a large trout, homemade cheese, Tkemali sauce, potatoes and vegetable rice. However, the most impressive aspect was sitting in this serene atmosphere. Nature, the piano, greenery and silence... There were hardly any people, making it incredibly peaceful. The area was also filled with adorable and friendly cats.

Breakfast cost 25 GEL per person and included a variety of items: sweet rice, jam, honey, khachapuri, eggs, homemade cheese and tea or coffee.

After breakfast we started our journey to Borjomi, which took about half an hour. Our first stop was the famous Borjomi central park. At the entrance, there were souvenir stalls selling honey, fruit leather, chacha, spices, decorative bottles and much more.

The park itself is ideal for a riverside walk. It offers a peaceful atmosphere with beautiful bridges, seating areas intertwined with nature and the soothing sounds of water. We then explored a waterfall. The trees were impeccably pruned and the mountains looked stunning. I really liked Borjomi. For some reason I had imagined it to be a simpler place. But as soon as we arrived and began exploring, even before reaching the main attractions, we were greeted by such beauty. I thought it was a small town, but upon looking at the map, I realized it was much larger than I expected. Borjomi is a sprawling city that can easily be explored on foot.

Here tourists often rent ATVs or buggies to explore the surroundings. From what I understood some parts of the park are associated with the Golden Tulip hotel, which might be supporting certain sections. The landscaping is impeccably done. On one side, there’s an area marked with a no entry sign, which belongs to the hotel. The hotel has created a private scenic area. From the outside, the hotel appears to be located right in the heart of the main tourist street. Nearby, there’s a Ferris wheel and we learned we could take a cable car to reach it.

As we continued to explore the street, we came across slippers made of sheepskin and various other souvenirs. While not suitable for summer, they seemed perfect for winter. The street is lined with many local delicacies and gifts.

At the end of the street we reached the famous Borjomi spring. Here, you can fill a bottle and taste the spring water. We discovered that the natural water tastes quite different from the bottled Borjomi sold in markets. It has a slight sulfuric smell. Tasting it requires a bit of courage, but most visitors try it. Out of curiosity, we did too. It’s slightly carbonated, but the sulfur taste is quite prominent. Its flavor might not suit everyone’s palate.

The city also has several tourist attractions including a Ferris wheel. You can take a cable car to reach it and enjoy breathtaking views of the mountains and the city. A one-way cable car ticket costs 15 GEL per person. At the top, there are various activities and parks where you can enjoy nature. Renting an ATV or buggy to explore the mountain paths is quite popular. And the Ferris wheel offers a panoramic view of Borjomi.

After touring the city, we realized that Borjomi is much more impressive and worth exploring than we initially thought. The city’s historical buildings are also well-preserved. For example, a building that used to house the Persian consul now operates as a hotel. Details like this add a unique charm to the city.

If you ever visit Georgia, Borjomi is a must-see. With its nature, fresh air and tourist attractions, it’s an amazing place.
