Hello, #traveling community of @worldmappin! Today I'm traveling to Santiago de Cuba.
There's a lot to tell, but I'll start at the beginning: at the Plaza de la Revolución “Antonio Maceo”, in the capital of the heroic city.
Anyone who comes to #Santiago by bus is impressed by the imposing sculpture of the famous Bronze Titan.
This square has been visited by personalities of all kinds; from Olga Tañón in 2015, to Popes John Paul II (1998) and Benedict XVI (2012), who officiated masses during their respective visits.
Benedict traveled directly from the airport to the square to officiate the multitudinous mass.
The statue of Maceo was created by the artist from Santiago, Alberto Lescay, and plays with the image of the 23 machetes of the mambí general and his equestrian figure.
General Antonio Maceo's horse is raised on its hind legs to indicate that he fell in combat.
It is undoubtedly a mandatory stop for everyone from the entrance to the main city of Santiago de Cuba.

Hola, #comunidad viajera de @worldmappin! Hoy viajo a Santiago de Cuba.
Hay mucho que contar, pero comenzaré por el principio: por la Plaza de la Revolución “Antonio Maceo”, en la cabecera ciudad heróica.
Todo aquel que venga a #Santiago en ómnibus, se queda impresionado por la impomente escueltura del conocido Titán de Bronce.
Esta plaza ha sido visitada por personalidades de todo tipo; desde Olga Tañón en el 2015, hasta los Papas Juan Pablo II (1998) y Benedicto XVI (2012), quienes oficiaron misas en sus respectivas visitas.
Benedicto viajó directamente desde el aeropuerto hasta la plaza para oficiar la multitudinaria misa.
La estatua de Maceo fue creada por el artista santiaguero Alberto Lescay y juega con la imagen de 23 machetes del general mambí y su figura ecuestre.
El caballo del General Antonio Maceo se encuentra levantado en sus patas traseras para señalar que cayó en combate.
Sin dudas es una parada obligatoria para todo aquel desde la propia entrada a la ciudad cabecera de Santiago de Cuba.
Por hoy es todo. Mañana continuo en mi visita a la ciudad héroe de Cuba.
