El poblado de Puerto Iguazú enclavado en el parque nacional del mismo nombre, en la provincia de Misiones, ofrece al viajero mucho más que las espléndidas Cataratas del Iguazú. A mi modo de ver, los Argentinos han sabido sacar provecho de tales bellezas naturales, haciendo sostenible el intercambio entre turistas y medio ambiente local. @aventurerasbike, @stow01 y éste redactor, viajamos a esa región sin un plan previo, más allá de estar motivados por la aventura de explorar. Y es por ello que nos llevamos muchas sorpresas, respecto de ver la oferta de Misiones.
Parece poca cuando no has investigado, pero si preguntas mucho a los locales, puedes llevarte varios recuerdos a casa que no estaban en vuestro plan. Así las cosas, una sugerencia perenne: pregunte...pregunte mucho, hable con los locales, sea cuidadoso a quien pregunta, eso sí. Como resultado de ello, puede hacer un turismo que jamás habría imaginado ¿Otra sugerencia? Sálgase del común del visitante promedio, esto no quiere decir desprecie la atracción principal de la ciudad, pero verá los descubrimientos que puede hacer.

The town of Puerto Iguazú, located in the national park of the same name, in the province of Misiones, offers the traveler much more than the splendid Iguazú Falls. In my opinion, the Argentines have known how to take advantage of such natural beauties, making the exchange between tourists and the local environment sustainable. @aventurerasbike, @stow01 and this writer, we traveled to that region without a previous plan, beyond being motivated by the adventure of exploring. And that's why we had many surprises when we saw what Misiones had to offer.
It seems little when you have not researched, but if you ask the locals a lot, you can take home several souvenirs that were not in your plan. So, a perennial suggestion: ask...ask a lot, talk to the locals, be careful who you ask, though. As a result, you can do some sightseeing you would never have imagined. Another suggestion? Get out of the average visitor's way, this does not mean despise the main attraction of the city, but you will see the discoveries you can make.
El refugio Güira Oga ha sido uno de esos sitios a los cuales llegamos preguntando. Un antiguo decreto del gobierno nacional argentino, trocó lo que antes conocíamos como zoológicos (encerrona de especies animales), por una figura mucho más sostenible y agradable llamada refugios. Ubicado en la carretera RN12 en ruta hacia el parque donde están las Cataratas, saliendo de Puerto Iguazú, Provincia de Misiones; tiene estacionamiento para quienes lo visiten en vehículo alquilado, pero también pasan por allí los colectivos con ruta al aeropuerto.
Con un valor de $ARS 12.000 por cada boleto, indistintamente si es usted un nacional o un extranjero, le reciben en una especie de cabaña donde comprará el derecho de visitar el refugio. Los recorridos duran entre 45 minutos y una hora, depende de la rapidez con la que se mueva el grupo y salen con guía desde esa cabaña en una especie de carreta tirada por un tractor. Ésta rueda aprox. un par de kilómetros selva adentro, antes de parar y bajar al público visitante.

The Güira Oga refuge has been one of those places to which we came asking. An old decree of the Argentine national government, changed what we used to know as zoos (enclosure of animal species), for a much more sustainable and pleasant figure called refuges. Located on the RN12 road on the way to the park where the Falls are, leaving from Puerto Iguazú, Province of Misiones; it has parking for those who visit it in a rented vehicle, but also buses pass through there on their way to the airport.
With a value of $ARS 12,000 for each ticket, regardless of whether you are a national or a foreigner, you are received in a kind of cabin where you will buy the right to visit the refuge. The tours last between 45 minutes and an hour, depending on the speed with which the group moves and depart with a guide from that hut in a kind of cart pulled by a tractor. It rolls about a couple of kilometers into the jungle, before stopping and lowering the visitors.
Es recomendable llevar agua fría en un contenedor y administrarla. En la parada se comienza a recorrer un trecho en medio de la selva de 800 metros aproximadamente, con la guía del naturalista del parque, el cual va narrando todo lo que hacen allí y la historia del nacimiento de éste refugio. En el interín, usted verá varios animales libres y si le gusta tomar imágenes, su cámara debe estar lista para lo imprevisto.
Así las cosas, se siente la naturaleza pura y dura del entorno. Nos preguntamos varias veces si seríamos capaces de sobrevivir en algo tan tupido y les digo que no sería nada simple. El calor es sofocante y los ruidos de la selva son algo que puede llegar a paralizar. Aún así, el recorrido es seguro y la guía solo pide que no se le adelanten mientras caminamos ¿la razón? Él/Ella tienen la experiencia necesaria para lidiar con animales que aparezcan en la ruta.

It is advisable to carry cold water in a container and administer it. Lo más cerca que usted estará alguna vez de lo salvaje (a menos que vaya de safari al Africa), será en un paseo como el que nos ocupa. Sólo debe cerrar los ojos y dejarse llevar por las sensaciones y las emociones emergentes. Quizás los entornos cerrados para contener a los animalitos sean lo más feo acá, pero son necesarios para poder atender a los enfermos y residentes de éste refugio. Acá los salvan de una muerte segura cuando otros rescatadores los traen a recuperarse.
Algunos han nacido dentro y no pueden ser devueltos a la naturaleza porque sus padres han perdido el instinto de enseñanza necesaria para que cachorros, polluelos, etc. puedan defenderse y cazar en el hostil mundo de la selva amazónica. Con todo, los guías son profesionales y responderán cualquier pregunta del público. Hay un sector de enfermería donde los veterinarios trabajan para recuperar a los animalitos heridos recién llegados al lugar. La mayoría del trabajo es voluntario acá, por personas que son más que ángeles para las especies refugiadas y sin duda, con la sensibilidad para regalar su tiempo en una causa tan noble. The closest you will ever get to the wild (unless you go on safari in Africa), will be on a ride like this one. All you have to do is close your eyes and let yourself be carried away by the sensations and emerging emotions. Perhaps the closed environments to contain the animals are the ugliest thing here, but they are necessary to take care of the sick and residents of this refuge. Here they save them from certain death when other rescuers bring them here to recover.

Una sociedad que cuida y respeta a los animales y la naturaleza es evolucionada, este refugio es una muestra de ello, aunque conocer la historia de alguno de los animales deja un poco de tristeza cuando es por acciones de los humanos (cazadores) o algunos que los mantienen en cautiverio amarrados por sus patas.
Una experiencia más, con un clima inclemente (alta temperatura y humedad)pero muy satisfactoria por el resguardo de los animalitos, besos!😀
Sin dudarlo, claro que lo visitaría. ¿Cuántas posibilidades hay de ver un puma tan de cerca y sin riesgo? De seguro que haría una parada en el parque refugio antes de abandonar Misiones.
Me considero afortunado por haber visto algunos animales salvajes a corta distancia. Es verdad que los viejos zoológicos eran tristes prisiones para inocentes, pero siendo mis hijos pequeños visitamos a un amigo que mantenía un refugio privado donde entre otros animales vimos: Un cunaguaro, tucanes y otras aves que sí estaban enjaulados, pero además pudimos ver un oso palmero, chigüires, y la estrella del lugar, una danta, tan grande como para llevar el lomo a la mismísima María Lionza.
Un lugar increíble que mantenía con la venta de gallinas guinea que criaba en el sitio.
Con el tiempo desmantelo el espacio, cediendo los animales a otras ubicaciones donde pudieran continuar su existencia. Recuerdo que un día me comento, que de no ser por los perros, unos cazadores hubieran matado a la danta.
Increíble, considerando que sucedió en una ciudad y en un tiempo prerrevolucionario.

No dudaría ni un segundo en visitar este magestuoso lugar, es increíble la vegetación la naturaleza que existe allí. Y tener la oportunidad de mirar esos animales tan vivos y hermosos, sin duda sería algo increíble y diferente de vivir. Qué bueno que pudiste vivir esa experiencia y disfrutarla. Bendiciones
