Hello Hive community, this time I want to give you a tour of another of the destinations to explore in Montevideo, the Plaza Constitución or Plaza Matrix as it is popularly known, it is located in the Ciudad Vieja neighborhood, which is the old quarter of the capital. Uruguayan and national historical heritage. Its inauguration with its unmistakable marble fountain dates back to 1871, but since its colonial times this space was the center of life for the city's inhabitants.
Hola comunidad de Hive, en esta oportunidad les quiero dar un paseo por otro de los destinos a explorar en Montevideo, la plaza constitución o plaza matriz como se le conoce popularmente, está ubicada en el barrio ciudad vieja que es el casco antiguo de la capital uruguaya y patrimonio histórico nacional. Su inauguración con su inconfundible fuente de mármol data del año 1871, pero desde su época colonial este espacio era el centro de la vida de los habitantes de la ciudad.
Today this square is the tourist and commercial hub of this area of the city, with the sarandí pedestrian street full of shops and restaurants, ministries and banks, souvenir shops and museums bordering this emblematic square, making it the meeting place par excellence. . It is not unusual to run into tourists asking for directions or taking pictures of the beautiful marble fountain decorated with cherubs, fauns and griffins, a curious fact about this fountain is that it was built by the first water supply company in the city and was one of the the conditions in the contract so that this company could provide the service.
Hoy en día esta plaza es el eje turístico y comercial de esta zona de la ciudad, con la peatonal sarandí llena de tiendas y restaurantes, ministerios y bancos, tiendas de souvenirs y museos bordean esta emblemática plaza, convirtiéndola en el lugar de encuentro por excelencia. No es inusual toparse con turistas pidiendo indicaciones o tomando fotografías a la hermosa fuente de mármol decorada con querubines, faunos y grifos, un dato curioso sobre esta fuente es que fue construida por la primera compañía de suministro de agua de la ciudad y fue una de las condiciones en el contrato para que esta compañía pudiese brindar el servicio.
In particular, something that I love about this place is the peace and tranquility that is breathed, despite being surrounded by hustle and bustle and having a lot of activity, it is a very peaceful place to have a coffee, enjoy the wind on a hot day or observe the birds that approach without fear of looking for a crumb of bread or a cake that we drop, in the vicinity we have the historical museum council, the metropolitan cathedral or the Uruguayan club that are destinations to know with an incalculable historical and architectural value , has very good security so we can be sure of having a very good experience and it is very easy to access, since multiple bus routes stop nearby.
En lo particular algo que me encanta de este lugar es la paz y la tranquilidad que se respira, a pesar de estar rodeada de bullicio y tener mucha actividad es un lugar muy apacible en que tomar un café, disfrutar del viento en un día caluroso u observar a las aves que se acercaran sin temor a buscar alguna miga de pan o algún bizcocho que dejemos caer, en las inmediaciones tenemos el museo histórico cabildo, la catedral metropolitana o el club uruguay que son destinos a conocer con un valor histórico y arquitectónico incalculable, tiene muy buena seguridad así que podremos estar tranquilos de tener una muy buena experiencia y es de muy fácil acceso, ya que múltiples rutas de autobús paran en las cercanías.
Something that gives an additional attraction to this emblematic square is that due to its location it is very common to find a bit of the folklore and magic of the city, in this case taking the photographs I came across a group of people playing candombe which is an expression Uruguay's own culture, which is a heritage of the populations from Africa, is something that happens almost every time I'm sitting there, whether it's candombe, a religious procession, an open-air concert or a dance group, every day you can see something different without changing the place.
Algo que da un atractivo adicional a esta emblemática plaza es que debido a su ubicación es muy habitual encontrar un poco del folklore y la magia de la ciudad, en este caso tomando las fotografías me tope con un grupo de personas tocando candombe que es una expresión cultural propia de Uruguay que es una herencia de las poblaciones provenientes de África, es algo que sucede casi siempre que estoy sentado allí, ya sea candombe, alguna procesión religiosa, un concierto al aire libre o un grupo de danza, todos los días puedes ver algo distinto sin cambiar el lugar.
Anyway... This is a place that has a special place in my list of favorites, I frequent it a lot and I recommend it to everyone who walks through Montevideo.
