Family stroll in Madyek

in Worldmappin4 days ago

Hello Hive community,

Some journeys are memorable for their intensity, others for their simplicity. My visit to Madyek, this small town on the Mediterranean coast of northern Morocco, during my trip with the family last week, belongs to the second category. Nothing extraordinary, no complex itinerary or heavy programme, just a stroll with the family, but nevertheless, this day will remain engraved in my memory.

When we arrived in Madyek, the first thing that attracted us was its large corniche and beautiful beach. We immediately wanted to walk along the sea, because the view of the blue water was really pleasant. It was a bit windy and a bit cold, but that didn't stop us from making good progress. We breathed in the fresh air, listened to the sound of the waves gently touching the sand, and it was a very pleasant moment. There weren't many people around us, probably because it's January and not the tourist season. My cousin, who knows the place well because he comes here often, told me that in summer it's so crowded that it's almost impossible to find somewhere to park your car. He even told me that you sometimes have to turn round for a long time before you find a space, because there are so many visitors at this time of year!

I'd have liked to lie down on the sand and enjoy the Mediterranean beach to the full, but there was one little problem... I hadn't brought my swimming costume! And yet the urge to swim was strong, even with the coolness of the water. As you may know, swimming is one of my favourite sports, along with football. But that's for another time!

After this beautiful walk, which did us a world of good, we decided to head for the Marina. It's a really beautiful place, with charming little streets and a lovely restaurant right in the middle of the sea.

The atmosphere here is nothing like that of the Corniche: it's much quieter and more relaxing, almost as if everything were going in slow motion. We watched the fishermen busy mending their nets, and just let ourselves be carried away by the peaceful atmosphere!

All that walking made you feel a little hungry. And what better way to round off our escapade than with a nice lunch of grilled fish! We found a typical little restaurant where the smell of grilled sardines and sea bass immediately drew us in, it was simply delicious. But the dish that really stood out during our gourmet break was the Bissara. This bean soup, typical of northern Morocco, is a real treat, especially when served hot with a drizzle of olive oil and a pinch of cumin.

Before leaving Madyek, we thought it would be a good idea to walk around a bit more and explore the narrow streets of the town. We didn't really know where we were going, so we just took it easy and looked around. That's how we came across a tiny mosque, well hidden between the houses painted white and blue. It was really simple, with a small minaret that didn't take up too much space, but that's precisely what gave it its particular charm. It wasn't like the big mosques you see in big cities, with their huge doors and impressive decorations. This one was very discreet and quiet, and that gave it a feeling of tranquillity.

We would have loved to have stayed longer, but after this last stroll, we had to get back on the road and continue our journey.

Our time in Madyek only lasted a few hours, but these moments with the family, these little discoveries and these moments of sharing over a good meal are part of the real pleasures of travelling. Sometimes it's not the destination that counts, but the way you experience it.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my post! It's always a pleasure to share a little piece of my daily life with you. Until I do, take care of yourself and enjoy every moment of the day. See you soon!

Madyek, truly vibes with magic. It prides with its renowned long stretch of shoreline in serene and clear blue waters. Indeed a relaxing place to be where time seems to slow down underneath that cottony blue sky. This must have been a delightful family vacay @hierundjetzt.
