when I made my post Street Art circuit 🎨 Old Phuket we had discovered an amazing small Chinese temple and I had promised to make a post about it. Well it is now done! 😊

The Old Town is a destination to do during your stay in Phuket (highly recommended by me 🤣). With its architecture, its animation, its little gems... it's very easy to spend a full day there without realizing it.

example of gems (photos above) with bicycles fixed to a front and one of the covered passages between the main street and a parallel street.

Located at 72/1 Yaowarat Road, it's easy to pass by without realizing that what is inside is worth the visit, because it's between 2 big buildings.

Built in 1891 by the Hokkien Chinese descendants of the Tan Luan Jae family, it's the Shrine of the Serene Light (Ting Kwan Tang in chinese, Saeng Tham Shrine in Thai). The objective was to provide a sacred place for a cult dedicated to their ancestral gods.

The level of detail and the care taken on the 2 entrance columns totally captivated me. I don't know how long I stayed watching and taking pictures of them.

A shrine of architectural design derived from the traditional Chinese Hokkien, as can be seen with the terracotta roofs (also present in the hall and access floor).

Once you have passed the main entrance, you'll be in a small alley with a mural all along (the one you can see in my street art post). From there, we can see a second entrance at the end of the small alley.

Once this second door is passed, the temple is finally in front of us. What a beautiful small temple and especially what a roof!

As with the columns at the entrance, I was captivated, this time by the roof of the temple, looking at the details through my Tamron lens.

I also really liked the building on the left which was extremely well decorated.
