Yesterday was a quiet day at the farm. With only a few students booked for my online teaching sessions. I found myself with some unexpected free time. The boredom began to creep in, and the heat wasn’t helping. My 11-year-old son, who loves to go to the river, suggested we head to the farm for a swim.

We set off from the house, heading down the gentle slope towards the river. The smell of freshly cut grass lingered in the air, a reminder of my husband's earlier work mowing under the Durian trees. We ambled along, enjoying the shade of the Durian trees that lined the way. The air was filled with the sweet scent of the earth and the rustling of leaves. We soon reached a small trail that led us through the river. Along the way, we passed over a few fallen logs, reminders of nature's constant cycle.

We finally reached the river, and the first thing I noticed was its cleanliness. The water was crystal clear, reflecting the bright sky above. The riverbed was mostly covered in gravel, with only a small portion of the river holding water. It looked more like a wide canal than a river. But it was a beautiful canal, with the clear, cool water flowing from the mountain. As we were walking we passed a fallen tree. The roots were still attached to the ground, but the trunk and branches had drifted into the river, forming a natural bridge across the water.

Despite the unexpected shallowness of the river, there was a sense of peaceful paradise all around us. The air was filled with the sounds of nature, the gentle breeze rustling through the leaves, and the chirping of birds. It feels like a secluded oasis.

Even after our long walk, the river remained surprisingly shallow. We were hoping to find a deep spot where we could swim, but the water was only about a foot or two deep. We had to wade through the gravel and over the fallen logs, hoping to find a deeper area. It was a bit of a disappointment, but we still enjoyed the coolness of the water, which was a little warm from the afternoon sun, but still refreshing. The water was crystal clear, reflecting the bright sky above.

My son, always the adventurer, wasted no time in exploring the river. He grabbed a handful of stones and started throwing them into the water, watching them skip across the surface. He laughed with glee as the stones splashed and sank, creating ripples in the clear water. "Mommy, can you do it too?" he asked, his eyes sparkling with mischief. I tried to persuade him to come home, saying, "It's getting late," but he just grinned and replied, "Just one or two more stones, Mom!" He was completely engrossed in his game, and his infectious laughter filled the air, bringing a smile to my face.

After my son had his fill of stone-skipping, the sky began to dim, signaling that it was time to head home. We walked back, the path uphill, and the air growing cooler. We were tired but content, having enjoyed a peaceful afternoon by the river. Back at the farm, we took a bath, refreshing ourselves after our time in the river, and then packed our things, ready to start our journey back to our house in the city.
