Ormond Scenic Loop and Trail

in Worldmappin2 months ago

The OSLT is a 34 mile double loop of roads here in Ormond Beach Florida. It runs next to the Atlantic Ocean, through Tomoka State Park and Bulow Creek State Park.
Bike trails and hiking trails abound.

Marine Turtles next on the beach in May-September and Right Whales migrate off the coast to calf in December thru April. Of course, like most Florida waterways, Alligators abound, as does many types of birds and other wildlife.

One of my favorite things is the Spanish Moss that grows and hangs from many, many trees here, like this section over the road. It has an even better spooky quality in the evening hours and fading light.

This video below taken with GoPro is just a glimpse of the North portion of the trail, driving on High Bridge Road, Walter Boardman Ln. and a small portion of Old Dixie Highway.

Here is a map of the full loop, courtesy of the Ormondscenicloopandtrail.com website. It's just a little south of some of the Flagler beach #drone videos I've shared previously. Check their site for more info or if you're interested in visiting.

Of course it's not all sunny days and nice weather here in Florida. One of the things we do have to worry about is Hurricanes. Currently Helene is just a few hours away from terrorizing the folks in the panhandle of Florida and moving north into Georgia. We will certainly see some strong winds and rain from it that has already begun, but very glad to not be in the direct path. These roads will certainly be flooded and impassable for a day or so.

Hopefully anyone here that is in the path of Helene are making their way to safer locations for the night. They are predicting a 20 ft storm surge up there in the big bend area of the panhandle. 20 feet! I can't even imagine that, it seems like something from a movie.

Take care all!

Sort:

It's an interesting place, there are so many animals in it. Be careful.

Yes, there will be many more bird pics coming for sure!

I wondered if you were going to be okay. I thought it was hitting more dead center. I didn't realize it was off the west so much. That Spanish moss is pretty sweet looking!

Yes, we'll be fine here on the East coast, just a big thunderstorm for us really that they label tropical storm. Worried about those folks around Tallahassee though! Yikes! Time for them to visit the Vermont leaves changing!

Yes, there is so much of that moss around here everywhere, it's fantastic.

I'm glad you will be okay. It looks like it's going to be a beast.

Be safe from hurricanes, this is a beautiful and natural area with many animals

Thanks and yes, there will be lots of forthcoming wildlife pics!

Is everything okay there with the Helene situation????

Stay safe over there!

Ok for us, just a inch or two of rain, and some 55mph wind gusts for a few hours. We were pretty far down the edge, the storm went North. I understand the folks up in the big bend area of Fla got hit pretty hard, and some relatives all the way up in Augusta, GA were without power a couple days.

It was a big storm indeed going far landinward. Good to here you guys had no issues! These things remain unpredictable

Been watching the news here, hope all is well where you are, the storm looks really bad. Take care

Tks, we're all safe here, had some friends on the West coast with a scary night and close call, but they ok as well.

I wish it pass without nasty accidents for you. 🤠

Tks friend, it passed us ok, although many didn't fare as well!
